I have read not to wash my stuff too often.
So how often do you wash their pouches, hammocks, trampolines etc?

I clean the bottom of the cage everyday.. but not their stinky pouch... Its been 2 weeks.. is it time?

I usually rotate pouches to be washed on my glider's schedule. I always have two pouches in the cage. They usually all choose the same pouch in their favorite place in the cage. After about 2 weeks I switch the two pouch locations. After a day or so they will all move to the 'clean' pouch in their preferred location. Then I take out the dirty pouch and replace it with a freshly washed one. In a couple weeks, I change places with the pouches again and wait for them to move into the cleaner pouch.

I would set up a set schedule on washing pouches. My gliders get a new pouch every Monday. I clean cage accessories every Thursday. The entire cage gets a good cleaning about once every 2-3 weeks. It's good to alternate the cleaning schedule so the gliders don't over mark. Personally, I'd clean your pouches weekly instead of waiting two...JMO.

I love this rotating pouch idea! Thank you for posting it! I would think that really helps with the over marking issue on clean items since they already have a pouch with their scent too. thumb

I just got them... a little over a week ago..
I wanted to make sure they had something familiar.

I would like to clean them every week. Which was my thought. I just wasnt sure.

I am going to make them a whole set of accessories so they will have 2.. right now I only have one..

I figure I can wash their accessories while I wear them.

Thank you for the input.

I had hoped that mine would choose the clean one, too.....but to no avail! So, I had to go to changing them out for them. I do always have two pouches, however...and they generally use both but one more than the other. If I notice that they've only been using one of the two, then I will only wash the one that they've been using steadily and leave the other.

Mine get upset about the dirty pouch after about 2 weeks. I always leave two in the cage, and when they want, they all move into the clean pouches, and I change the rest of the fleece at the same time.

I also have the two pouch system in my cage. When they move out of one and into the other I know it's time to clean it. It usually happens somewhere around the 2 week mark, but you know, even at that point I have never found them to be overly stinky...but, they know what they want I guess smile

I keep a blanket in the pouch. When I switch out pouches - once a week - I move their stinky blanket into the new pouch, plus add a clean blanket.

The next week, the 2 week old blanket gets washed, last week's blanket gets moved to a clean pouch with a new blanket.

If I keep the New blanket color-coordinated with the new pouch, I can keep track of which one stays and which gets washed.

I also have two pouches, but instead of switching between the pouches, I leave the used blanket in the washed pouch and wash the blanket on a different day by adding a washed blanket to the used pouch.

I have worked on several schedules for cleaning and took notes as to when my gliders were marking more and what worked best for them and me. The following cleaning schedule works great, my gliders have a very sweet smell to them, and their room and playroom have no smell to it:

Monday - Wash the drop tray/food bowls/water bottles early morning. Wash all pouches.
Tuesday- Wash the drop tray/food bowls/water bottles early morning.
Wednesday - Wash the drop tray/food bowls/water bottles early morning. Wash all toys.
Thursday - Wash the drop tray/food bowls/water bottles early morning. Wash all blankets.
Friday - Wash the drop tray/food bowls/water bottles early morning.
Saturday - Wash the drop tray/food bowls/water bottles early morning. Wash the cage.
Sunday - Wash the drop tray/food bowls/water bottles early morning.

It depends for me. If I have gliders that are soiling their pouches, I change them every day until they stop again. Otherwise I use multiple pouches and put a fresh one in (take an old one out) twice a week (or as I find a soiled pouch).

I only change their toys about every other week.

Wow, I feel disorganized.
I use the sniff test on Pookah pouches. If It's ripe I wash it. He switches between the multiple pouches in his cage all the time with no rhym or reason so it's difficult to tell what he's stinking up at the moment without taking a whiff. My husband says I look like I belong in a male college dorm on laundry day...

The toys get washed once a week or so and I wipe the cage off and change the drip pan every other day or so. I will probably have to make a schedule when I get him a new partner, but for now since he's alone he's less messy.

I used to do it like you when I only had one glider, but with 6 in the house, I needed a schedule. wink

So I have noticed that my girls moved into their tunnel. I am assuming this is them telling me their pouch is stinky.

Now I am learning their schedule, here is a new question.

How do you clean their pouches? I washed and dried (or is it dryed) them and the hook got stuck on something and twisted around another article of laundry and the hook bent.
NOt to mention the wear on the already old pouch.

I am getting 2 new pouches (whole sets actually). But I want to know how to clean them before I ruin them....
Looks like my girls like their stuff cleaned weekly to the day! smirk

I prefer handwashing in warm to cool water, no soap, hang dry. takes minutes to wash and I have no problems with stinky pouches. and they wont wear out as fast

For me it depends on the cage. For the unneutered males pouches, hammocks and stuff gets changed out when it smells (not at the same time, pouch one night and other fleece stuff the next night! Their stuff starts smelling long before my other gliders pouches, so their stuff gets chanfed out about every 3 weeks or so, If I can smell it its got to be washed. I wash their things in cold water on gentle cycle with gain det and fabric softener balls. I air dry them all (in the house)

meant to add I always put 4 inch by 4 inch snuggle blankies in their pouches and on pouch changing day I take 3 or 4 from the dirty pouch and put in the clean pouch I then hang up the clean pouch and set the dirty pouch on the cagebottom, they get in their clean page without difficulties!

Yea, maybe I'm just a jerk but I just throw their stuff in with this all natural detergent stuff my wife uses. But there is a method to my madness as I do NOT wash their fleece pouch WITH the fleece squares inside. If a new pouch is put in the cage, I put the old square in. When I wash the OTHER pouch, the square is taken out and a fresh one put back in. It keeps their scent at least in there.
