AJ - Im so sorry for everything Precious has been through!! I can't offer much help but it seems to me that taking her off pain meds when her burns are still able to weep, well, it just seems too early to me. Think how a person with a burn like that would feel and would need pain meds. You're doing great and will continue to do so I know. Please keep us updated. You're in my thoughts.

The pain meds. are helping. I'm keeping her with me in the bonding pouch through out the day & appling her Sal. cream 3 to 4 times a day. I saw the pic. of the gliders foot on BMXgirl's website; Precious'injured foot has the little thumb but all the little toes are fused. What does this mean for her? Losing her foot or what?

No i don't think she's losing her foot, but it may have fused together from the heat. If she has been using the foot, and as long as the foot doesn't look completely mangled, she should be allright IMO.
Just keep up the good work with preccious !!!

AJ, next time you go to the vet, point out her feet and ask what they think is going on. You might, if you can, take a pic and post it so we can see what you are talking about. A picture is worth a thousand words!
You are doing so awesome with this little girl, she will be your buddy and bestest friend ever for life! She knows or soon will just how lucky she is!

The vet. called to check on Precious this morning. I told her about the foot; she had me to bring Precious in right away. Just got back, Precious will be operated on Monday morning. It's good news , bad news : the good news is the burns are healing well on her back & upper leg. The skin is closing over the wounds. The bad new is the foot is healing a little to well. The scar tissue is growing so fast tring to heal, that the skin can not close over it & the scar tissue is covering her toes. The vet. has to remove the excess tissue. She should have use of her toes again. I'll keep you posted.

You have a very good vet who is concerned as to how your glider is progressing. Wish all vets were so concerned but unfortunatly their shechudles do not permit the time needed. Sending get well prayers.

Try reducing the size of the pics with your photo program to 400 pixcels. That should help. My email is low so receiving should not be a problem.

Well, we're off to the Doctor's for Precious' operation. Keep her in your prayers. I think she knows something is up. She didn't want to play last night. This morning I checked to see what she had eaten during the night; almost all the BML (with turkey added) but she hasn't hardly touched her fruit & veggies. That 3 days in a row; I'm going to ask her Doctor about it.

Hope the the vet is weighing her each time you take her back to be checked. One of the fist signs of a possible infection is weight loss dispite good appetite.

Give us an update to let us know she is ok. Will say a special prayer that all goes well.

Precious is home. Everything seems to have go well. Doc. said she did all she could to help her. Now, we just have to wait & watch to see how she heals. We have up the pain meds. to three daily now. (as needed) We have a new Med., new ointment to put on the foot. Hope this works, she has been through so much.

Hi AJ...I just saw your post. I'm so sorry to hear about Precious but sounds like she is on the mend again. She is a tough little glider. And she has a wonderful mom that takes excellent care of her and she loves you for it. If you have time please send me the new pics. Keep us updated on her progress.

I hope you got the pictures. Precious seems to be doing well. She is playing & she ate really good last night. Almost all of everything. She is not biting her foot so I think the pain meds. are helping her.
Judie, I wanted to tell you that Precious' weight has increased 7 grams since 11/25/02. With everything she is going through she is still gaining. She is eating better since the surgery; she is also gripping things with her foot. I had to put a piece of my t-shirt down in the bottom of the cage because her foot seemed to bother her when she walked across the floor of the cage. She is sitting on her teddybear to eat. It really looks sweet..I'll keep you posted.

Poor little glider. She has been through sooo much. The weight gain is a Good Sign. Sending more prayers for a speedy recovery.

give her a little dannon yogurt its great for gliders especially for stress. i give to mine daily for the past 5 yrs.

Hello All,
I know it has been a while since my last post. But I thought you might want to know about the girls. Precious' burns have healed
She does have damage to her hind foot and only limited use of it. She seems to manage just fine. The only problem we have is over grooming. She & Doodlebug were getting along great, her fur was growing back in, things were really looking up for her. That is until Doodlebug doubled her wieght. Doodlebug has become the Alpha female! It has stressed Precious out so much that she has over groomed her whole right side! I have had to separate them. Precious has lost wieght too. My next step is an e-collar if this doesn't work. I don't want to use drugs to settle her down. I would like to help her some other way. So, I'll keep tring. She still has fear of hands, she looses control of her bodily functions if you try to hold her or carry her in a pouch. It's as if she has had an emotional break down. Keep us in your thoughts.
Doodlebug is doing great. She is still a bra baby & is a chubby buddy She loves her BML (Precious is eating BML really well too) Doodlebug loves to jump from me to my hubby. She also likes to go into my 6 year old's RugRatz sports bra... My little girl just loves it. My hubby was doing a funny dance when Doodlebug went into the pocket of his pants...

Hi AJ - a welcome update! Poor little girl - she has had a time, eh? You should feel very food about yourself for what you have done for that wee one! I'm sorry to hear about the over-grooming - is she doing any better now? Maybe her cage mate is a little too overbearing....... I am just thinking aloud as I have never had to deal with the overgrooming problem. I wish I could advise you somehow but I am afraid I can't. I called Mary H. & she was very helpful. I have had to move Precious to another cage. She is very stressed out. I'm going to try a few more things that Mary H. suggested over the next few weeks but if there is no improvment I will have to find someone with more experience with gliders that have been abused.
