Peggy for the diarrhea, you can get some lactobacillus, and sprinkle it lightly on their food, it might take a couple of nights, but it should help clear up the diarrhea. It's a bit expensive, and a box is a lot for a one time thing, but it's great for clearing up diarrhea. Ask you local pharmacist for some, it's not an item you will be likely to find on the shelf. It might be easier for them since you don't have to feed something they aren't eating right now. The other product, Benebac you can find at your local pet store, ( or should be able to) is a good one as well. I've never used it, but, I have heard of it's use and being a good bacteria. Take care and hugs Chey

It's been 2 weeks today since I've lost any gliders. I wanted to share that in my gliders they found 2 strains of listeria--one was sensitive to amoxicillin and the other was resistent. So, now the remaining gliders are on Cefdroxil (Cefa Drops). I'm not trying to act like a medical professional. I'm just sharing this in case someone else runs into a similar problem. I pray that between the amoxicillin and the cefa drops, the rest of my gliders will make it. Thanks to everyone who 'listened' and offered their condolences and support. It was greatly appreciated during this very painful time.

Well Peg, sounds like you may just have things under control. Sure has been a difficult time for you and your gliders. However, looks like things are on the mend. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/muchlove.gif" alt="" />

Peggy, 2 weeks and COUNTING, I'm praying that was all, sounds to me like they sure are working hard at getting your babies on the recovery road completely, and I hope you're sleeping better, listeria is not an easy thing to deal with, you sure are a wonderful glider mommy, thanks for keeping us posted, always in my thoughts...

Just a little update--I haven't lost any gliders in a little over 3 weeks. The vet discovered that the listeria was sensitive to Cefa drops. Tonight will be their last night of treatment. They seem to be doing a lot better. I hope to make one more report, before all is said and done. My husband and I are going to try and get weights this weekend. We took them last weekend. Our vet asked us to do this. I pray they are picking up a little weight. All 10 of my remaining gliders had lost some weight, I guess because of the listeria. I hope they're gaining again. They do seem fine, tho. One more thing: Deceased Little Feller's mate, Andi, lost her twins just today. We hoped they might make it, but I knew things were't going well because she wasn't getting any larger. Today, I noticed she didn't look like she was expecting so I pulled out her cage pouch, and they were in there (one smaller than the other), both very underdeveloped--very pink and not even an inch long. I'm not sure how they got there (whether she pulled them out or not), but they are gone. I really wanted to have Little Feller's joeys (since he died), but they didn't make it ( vet didn't think they would because of all the antibiotics she had to take due to listeria). The vet said that if we gave Andi the antibiotics, it was possible the twins wouldn't make it. We decided that, rather than lose Andi AND the joeys, we would go ahead and treat her. I still have Boog, Andi's and Little Feller's only offspring, and I'm keeping him!

Hopefully this will be my last post in this topic, but I wanted to let everyone know that the nightmare appears to be over. We weighed our gliders last night, and EVERYONE gained weight...some are still a little under where they began, but most of them weigh at least as much!! Thanks to God, my vet, and EVERYONE here!

my sympathies as well, i give my gliders a bit of apple cider vinegar in their water, can the listeria bacterium be controlled or destroyed by the use of apple cider vinegar?
