ALL of my pets love, love, LOVE cardboard boxes for whatever reason, but are they safe as toys for gliders?

With the rats, I use them for one night and then toss 'em because they do get stained and soaked pretty quickly, which I'm sure would also be the case with suggies.

Another toy both my cats and rats love are tissue boxes (I get the bleach/scent/lotion/dye-free tissues). They pull all the tissue out and run around with it for hours! For the rats, I pull off any plastic/tape/sharp bits and let them go at it. And the cats just roam through the house looking for any tissue boxes we've forgotten to hide...

Buuut I know gliders are a lot more fragile, so are there any safety concerns?

Since gliders do not chew like a rat would, cardboard might not be as exciting for them as it is for rodents. I do know of some people who feed their gliders on paper plates and they always seem to be a little torn up in the morning.

Instead of cardboard, you may want to try putting in some safe natural branches for your gliders to have fun with. I've used some cut palms in the past, and I've got bamboo in the cages right now.... my gliders have a blast peeling off the bark and I know it's 100% healthy and not hazardous smile I believe you can find an extensive list of safe plants in the diet or housing forum.

The rats (and cats and dogs and hamster) don't really chew their cardboard boxes and tunnels all that much--they just sleep in and on them, roll them, chase each other through them, etc, so maybe I'll still try it with Sweet & Low. What the heck, I've already got some, so as long as it's safe, why not?

But I'll definitely try plants soon! smile I ordered some pesticide-free apple tree branches online, and I'll try some eucalyptus once payday comes around! Funny how about 90% of my pay goes to toys and things for my pets, no matter how much I make...

Lol, glad to know I'm not the only one! The first thing that pops into my mind when I get a little extra money is, "Oooh, now I can place an order with _______! Their pouches/toys are so cute!"

I have seen pictures of peoples gliders in tissue boxes... if you are watching for safety concerns, and throwing them out when they get nasty, I see no reason why you can't use 'em thumb

I'm sure you'll see some other opinions...

roflmao roflmao roflmao Exactly! I have a huuuge list of toys and things I just HAVE to buy my critters! And I haven't even had a chance to break in all the stuff I've been buying for YEARS in preparation for suggies (five 50 gal totes cram-packed with stuff)!

So it'll be a nice change for my bank account to use something I've got already, LOL

Most people I know who have gliders, myself included, don't offer cardboard anything for the following reason/s:

Our gliders DEMOLISH those items.

There is a fear that since they demolish the cardboard, primarily through chewing, that they may ingest the cardboard, which may result in blocked intestines.

I, along with those I speak of, have opted against cardboard because of those reasons.

Just a differing opinion.. Food for thought if you will. xD

My daughter is helping me re-arrange ONE of the glider rooms. You see, my home has three bedrooms. I have one bedroom, the gliders have another and toy making supplies, toys, pouches & the tent have the third. Good thing I don't want a man in my life! LOL!

LOL I'm pretty sure my future house will be like that, too! Might have to just sleep in the hallway to make room for my babies and their stuff!
