There are enough "new" vendors and do-it-yourself cage set makers out there that I have to share this disturbing alert with you. (Let's face it, even some of us "seasoned veterans" can use a friendly reminder now & again) This one is concerning the "cuddly fleece" on the market out there. It's VERY VERY SOFT and has a short fuzzy nap, if you don't know what I'm talking about. While GC was down, my friend Talking Feathers called me & told me that she had a MAJOR "shedding" issue with a cage set I'd made for her. I couldn't quite grasp what she was trying to say...so she brought the cage pouch over for me to see (OH HOW I WISH I COULD'VE FOUND MY CAMERA...it was BAAAAD!) It appears that the material itself was beginning to break down and leaving LONG STRIPS OF PILLING on the pouch. She said she'd had to clean this stuff off her gliders' nails because it'd get stuck...I'm talking about doing this DAILY!!! The side of the pouch that was against the cage looked fine...but the side the gliders climbed on was TRASHED!! (Now this defines a true friend: She also brought over an anti-pill fleece pouch that I'd made 2 years ago....it STILL looked like brand new, despite being used daily & washed every 3rd day! "It's not your handiwork that's at issue here....it's the FLEECE!!") IF you happen to have a "cuddly fleece" cage pouch out there.....PLEASE INSPECT IT AND YOUR GLIDERS' TOENAILS ON A DAILY BASIS for evidence of this "shedding". No matter how much you paid for the cage set, IT IS NOT SAFE to have in your cage & used daily!! When there's human supervision (for a bonding pouch, maybe) while your gliders are in it...that's another story! But "foretold is forewarned" as the saying goes...be ALERT!! (this country could use more lerts! )

Thanks for the "lert"! I haven't used that type of fleece for the stuff I make but now I know not to use it in the future!

When ever I see those signs "be alert" I always say to my hubby "whats a lert" LOL I wish I still had the card that my mom sent me eons ago that had this caption above a cute little animal: The picture was something like a cheetah cub maybe? Dark large eyes, spots all over, and these HUUUUUGE ears! The look on this little cutie's face was like someone had danged its favorite treat just out of camera range..."Oooooh I don't know what that is, but it's DEFINITELY got my attention!" I've become a HARSH critic of fleece nowadays, and that just made me even MORE finicky on my selections!
