Hey Everyone,
I had to take Precious to the vet. this morning. Her side looks a lot better but her leg seem to be getting worst.
I told them about her living conditions when I first got her (the small cage, no toys/perches, no tray in the bottom). The vet. seems to think it is an infection from poor hygiene. She may have started out licking from stress but because of the poor condition of the cage, she picked up an infection.
She gave her an injection of Torbutrol for pain & Baytril for the infection. Precious is still at the vet. so they can monitor her for a little while. I'll pick her up this afternoon.
She is also giving me meds. to give her here at home.
They may be placing an E-collar on her, & I ask them to cut her nails. (it may help with the scratching)
The wound is described as Minor on my invoice, I'm thankful for that.
I'll keep you posted,

I just called the vet. to see how Precious is doing. They said Precious has been out of her pouch climbing & playing a little. She is now back in the pouch resting.
The Tech. said the pain Med. is really helping.
They should be calling me soon with an update said the Tech. & let me know when I can pick her up.

On the road to recovery

Precious is home & OMG!! ,

She does have an infection but it's not due to poor hygiene/cage conditions from urine or overgrooming.
Precious has 2nd & 3rd degree BURNS!!! The vet. said she can only speculate but it looks like she has been scald or something like that. I can believe someone would do this.
My poor baby, my heart is aching because of the pain she has been through. I should have had her to the vet. sooner
It's time for her meds.
Talk to you later,

Precious is soooooooooo lucky that she has you! I hope she heals rapidly. I don't know why anyone would want to hurt a little animal like that! I've a firm believer in what goes around comes around and I hope whoever hurt her gets whats coming to them soon! Too bad we can't be there to see them suffer!

Thank you Chey & Teddysmom,
I'm having so much trouble catching her to give her the meds.. I'm so frighten that I'm going to hurt her.(or that she is going to take a bite out of me...lol) The vet. showed me the way to hold her but it's easier said than done when she doesn't trust me yet. I know she must be hurting too. You should see the picture I have of the wounds, It would brake your heart, It does mine.
take care,

AJ...to give your glider her meds...draw them up first. Then get a towel and wrap her in it and take her to the bathroom so if she does get loose you do not have to chase her.

If you hold her correctly...much like holding a bird...body in the palm of your hand with the index and thumb holding her head you will have control of her. THen push the dropper with the meds into her mouth when she starts to crab. Try not to remove the dropper too quickly as sometimes they will sling the meds out.

As to the burns...there are many ways a glider can get burned without it delibertly done. She may have got them from a curling iron, stove or anything else that is very hot. I once blistered my very first glider's ear with a blow dryer and did not know for several days. Made me feel horrible to think I did it to her unknowingly. Thing to do now is to concentrate on the fact that she is alive and she will make it through this horrible time.

I do hope the vet sent some torb home to help with the pain. If you need further help feel free to email me.

Thanks you all,
I'm happy to report that Precious' wounds look much better this morning. She doesn't appear to be licking them.
The giving of Med. went much better this morning too. Thanks Judie

The vet. said I can carry her in the bonding pouch, that she should be just find.

Take care all,

Hi Steph,
I hope you don't mind that I sent you the pictures of Precious. I know the pictures are shocking. I'm just glad the med. seem to be working.
I was wondering if the pictures are clear enough that you might be able to tell me what color you think she might be. I still don't know.

Talk to you later,

AJ...I got the pictures of Precious. She is a sweetie. I just want to kiss her little leg. I'm definately not the expert here as I am new to the glider world. But Judie is an expert so please send her the pics of Precious and she can tell you for sure. I know there's a link of the different color variations, hopefully someone will post it for you. Keep up the good work, she is a percious little Precious!!!!! LOL

I need help with Precious! Her burns look awful today. They are weeping again and she is licking them again. I think the licking started because the vet. tried to take her off the pain meds. When I saw her foot this morning I call the vet. & said I want the pain Meds. for her today! They said come & get them this afternoon. Her toes on her hind foot look as though they have fused together. Her hind foot stuck to her tail today; it looks as though she tried to bite her foot. It has been bleeding. I wet the tail a little & freed her foot. Gave her meds. & put on more cream. Doc. says if not better by Friday bring her back in. I feel like I'm really in over my head here. I don't know what else to do.

As far as the toes being fused together. There are two toes on their hind feet that are supposed to be fused together. Those would be the grooming claws. Here is BMXgirl's glider anatomy website, see if the toes you are saying are fused together are the correct ones. Hands and Feet If not then we have a problem. I'm really sorry for your baby being hurt. I know she was a rescue and I'm very proud that you took in a rescue as your first glider, very very good of you. Hope she gets better soon. Hopefully Judie will be along with some other advice about the meds and the actual burns. Can you put an e-collar on her to keep her from licking her wounds?

AJ, are the pain meds working yet? And has the vet put her on an antibiotic? That poor baby. As big as those burns are, it's going to take some time for them to heal. I am just getting a baby over an open wound myself. Mama chewed a hole in her neck down to the muscle. That was 3 1/2 weeks ago, she is now almost totally healed, and a spoiled rotten little brat and very demanding! It's going to take some time, I would keep her pain meds going as long as she needs them. Take her in on Friday and see what the vet has to say. These guys are so fragile! You have been doing great with her and she is so lucky to have you! Please let us know how she is doing and if the pain meds are helping any!
