im expecting joeys to come oop soon however, im worried that if mommy doesnt wish to feed them or if perhaps if anything were to happen n im needed to take over the job of feeding the joeys instead, what can i use to supplement feed or use as replacement for the just oop joeys? i've search vets n petstores for ESBILAC, WONBAROO or MARSUPIAL milk but all of it is just unavailable here.. may i substitute it with any other milk like kitten milk or puppy? there's Troy's puppy + kitten milk here. or wld it be fine to just use the baby BML??

[:"green"]You can use any brand of Puppy Formula instead of Esbilac (since that's unavailable there). Do not use kitten formula because it's higher in lactose & would be hard on the joey's tummies. Baby BML is also fine instead. In fact, if you already feed your gliders BML, you may prefer to use it.
A precautionary note: don't hand-feed the joeys unless they need it for some reason. If you haven't already, please read my page on Hand Raising A Joey so you know what to watch for in making that decision. You are smart to be prepared ahead, "just in case".
Congrats on expecting joeys!

I have heard Goats milk is great because you dont have to mix like the puppy and also dont have the one problem (i can think of right now) that you do with cats milk. I have heard it works wonders.

You would need a low lactose milk all marsupials do!
Goats milk is only slightly lower in lactose than
cows milk, with 4.1% milk solids as lactose verses 4.7% in cows milk.

If I were you I would contact a zoological park in your area - maybe Melaka (1st choice) or Zoo Negara (but I understand they do not have a very good animal care history)
You could also contact the Malasia zoological society & they may be able to assist you(?)
Ask the zoos if they house marsupials & how do they obtain marsupial milk replacers - there are 3 different companies who make the replacers

I know that there is going to be a course for zoo & wildlife
veterinarians June 12-16

we havent got Wal-Mart here, only Tesco and others.i was recommended to try sustagen(it has been used before by other glider owners here) but does anyone knows which sustagen i sld use? there's the sustagen for junior (1+), kid(3+) and school(6+). ok.. at the mean time, i'll try to get the contacts for the Malaysia zoological society and see what the use.

You are very welcome!

One more wonderful <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/littleglider.gif" alt="" /> product that should be pretty easy for you to obtain "Nekton Sugar Glider"
I rave about this product & have been using it for several years with excellent success -
Nekton Sugar Glider
I just talked with a friend & buddy Kellie at Nekton in FL & learned the owner of Nekton resides in Indonesia - he created this excellent <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/littleglider.gif" alt="" />product

Please click on "New"
Please click on "Nutrition"
Please click on "Agents" scroll down & you will see Malaysia -

Ming Enterprises
Tel - 00603- 787 46750

I am sure your <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/littleglider.gif" alt="" />'s will love this product - if not Nekton will buy it back! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yelclap.gif" alt="" />

It is a powder & you mix it with pure water - I warm my water just a tad before I add the powder
It is an excellent product & years of research went into this product!
I purchase my Nekton Sugar Glider along with other Nekton products for my 21 yr young cockatoo from Florida.
It is aprox USD $35 for 300 gr - the large jar.
If I were you, print info & take it to your <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/littleglider.gif" alt="" />'s veterinarian & let he/she take a look!
Good luck with your <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/littleglider.gif" alt="" />'s "Little People"

lol.. its alright. here? gliders are still quite rare i suppose... and especially glider food, products, toys and accessories. We seem to have nothing here for them except their bonding pouches(very limited pieces and only 1 colour/pattern).. lol. (and them of course)

[:"green"]Although Nekton is an excellent product, I don't think it is really appropriate as a joey formula in and of itself. It could be used as part of a formula (as a substitute for Gliderade), but not as a stand-alone...
If you wanted to use it along with the Troy's Puppy Formula you have available and mix it according to the recipe (Joey Formulas) on my site, I think you would be fine, but please don't use it alone for your joeys...

Agree, Nekton would be for her adult <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/littleglider.gif" alt="" />'s as it seems to difficult to obtain products in that area.
I would highly recommend Wombaroo possum milk replacer for any (future) joey's possibly needing assistance.

From the Marsupial Soicety of Australia -
Marsupial milk changes during lactation to provide the nourishment required at different stages of joey development.
Wombaroo has designed their milk replacers for individual marsupial species & they are graded according to the age of the joey to mirror the changes which occur in nature.

In an absolute emergency - until proper milk replacer can be obtained -
Full cream powdered milk at half strength, sweetened with honey, slightly warmed & given using a small teat or dropper

thks so much Suz and Pockets.. ah..Seems like im all well prepared now for any just-in-case times that is needed..

oh Pockets.. what does it mean by Full cream powdered milk half strength? half strength as in diluted to half of its strength compared to when using for human?
will puppy replacer do better or Full cream milk ?

Yes diluted to half strength & I really would choose to use Wombaroo as it can be obtained & kept on hand.
Why would people not give a milk replacement that is designed for marsupials to avoid possible downline problems?
I do not see Possum or macropod milk given to puppies very often <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/roflmao.gif" alt="" />

thats very true indeed but we dont have Wombaroo(or any other marsupial milk)here and we can only get it by purchasing online. i hope it gets here in time i need it...so at the mean time, im trying to find an alternative way for just in case it is needed.

[:"green"]Pockets, I agree that Marsupial milk would be the best option. However, knowing that saltnsugar is in Malaysia and does not have access to it is why I recommended what I did... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
