How funny this question should come up today because just last night I was surfing looking for something to watch and landed on Chris Rock's film on "Hair" (not sure that is the title). I do not know what texture your hair is, but I would imagine all relaxers are pretty much made from the same basic chemical which is very caustic (toxic).

One demonstration used at the factory where relaxers are made was with a soda can, and it was completely disintegrated in four/4 hours shock

I got from watching the film you have to be very careful when applying not to leave it on too long or you will get some very nasty burns.

Maybe you could do some research to see what residual chemical is left on the hair. I really don't know.

I would not let them get around your hair for a while (I think this is true for perms and color treated as well). But I don't think it will be something you have to worry about every time you are around them.

Also, the smell (any processing leaves a smell for a bit) will likely deter them from trying to be close to your hair anyway. In the unlikely event that they are actually attracted to your hair, I would just cover it for a while when you are playing with them.

This is a great question, one that I would have never thought of! Thank you for asking it!

Im a hairstylist and can tell you that stuff is very strong!! If you have watched the documentary that KarenE is speaking of you would be amazed. And the funny thing is Perm solution is just as bad. Since most perms and relaxers can only be washed out and then left for a few days until washed again I would say, as a professional in this field, dont let them chew on your hair for a week or so. Most of the chemicals in these products are made to work over time, breaking down the structure of your hair to create the straight or curly look. Which is why washing it can send your hair back to normal. I would just take some precaution when its freshly done. Ive had reactions from relaxers before that lasted days. No fun! frown

lol Def no fun! Also, since you started doing it urself, just a friendly reminder not to go through the parts that have already been relaxed or it will snap right off. If not right away eventually. But if that happens.. you can start a new trend im sure. smile haha

Haha! Im doubting it really did much to your hair leaving it on for only that long did it? I havnt done relaxer in awhile, but I always get butterflies when doing it. They have a new kind out that I really like. Its a mild relaxer you apply, wash and then you straighten it and leave it like that for 2 days. It keeps it pretty much in the same style you styled it to. Its pretty nice smile
