Goodmorning Everyone. I know I've only posted once or twice before, but I'm not that new to the fourm. I surf the site many times during the week, looking 2 answer questions or curiosity. I'm writing now b/c I need your help. I'm worried about my female Mia. Tonight when I gave them their food, I noticed something different with her pouch. It seemed relaxed but pink and more open than usual. She was also very active, she seemed desperate for attention. I took her out and examined her. She is very bonded and very trusting w/ me. I could look at her pouch w/ any trouble. Inside it looks like she is swollen. Not pink or red, but almost like 2 blisters. I call them blisters b/c you could see somewhat through the skin. They are symetrical. When I was examining her, the pouch was easy to open, it turned inside out. There is definately some sort of fluid inside. After I would look at it, she would then lick to clean herself, and then lick me. I'm not sure if her pouch was wet before this or only after I had examined her. I thought I should share some more info that might help. I got her Oct of last year when she was 7 weeks OOP. She lives w/ a male that was fixed in Aug of last year when we got him. Both are great eaters and follow a pretty regular routine. Both have had wellness exams and are due for mid year check ups. I had an appointment scheduled for the first week of June, but now I plan to get her in as soon as possible. Has anyone delt w/ any thing like this? Is this something that develops w/ puberty? Is it part of her cycle? I really hope this is one of those dumb questions. Any and all help is greately appreciated. Honestly, I don't know what I would do if I lost my little girl. I love my Girl Friend dearly, But Mia has taken my Heart. Praying and waiting for answers. Thanks again, JP.

Suz is right, a vet visit is in order as soon as you can get her in. Let us know how things are going and I hope she is all better very soon.

If her glands are inflamed, what will be the vets treatment? Has anyone delt w/ this situation before? I want to make sure that my vet makes the right choices: Meds, recomendations, etc... JP.

I haven't dealt with this situation, but I wanted to wish you luck. Do tell us how the visit goes. All I know is mastitis is a bacterial infection of the mammary glands. Here are two links, from Mayo Clinic's site, and Health AtoZ's site, describing this condition. I know those relate to women, and not gliders (or animals), but I'm guessing treatment will involve antibiotics. You do need to take her to the vet right away.

Yes antibiotics, one of my gliders had this a few months ago. The good news is most of the oral antibiotics taste good and my glider loved hers and took it like it was a treat

vet visit went well. Looks like I caught this right at the start. Everyone is very optimistic. They gave me some oral antibotics, a morning and evening dose for 14 days. She seemed to enjoy the dose last night, and is acting more like her normal self. I'll keep posting updates. Thanks for all the help, care and prayers. JP.

Thanks the update. Great of you to be such a diligent glider slave to catch her problem early!
