That an animal's nose was a good indicator of animal health. I now that a glider nose changes color depending on stress level, etc. So I thought it would be interesting to list some "nose indicators" so feel free to answer the questions:

What is a healthy glider's nose supposed to feel like? for example are they supposed to be warm, dry, cool, moist?

What are the different colors you have seen and what do they mean? For example red, purple, pink, white? Stressed, excited, calm, sick?

We all know a glider's nose should always be a light healthy pink.

I have experienced warm, dry, cool, moist and different colors at different times of the day and depending what they are doing. I personally think it is very important to know each glider's behavior, to be able to know when there is a health issue. We cannot simply assume that when a glider's nose is purple that we have a respiratory issue. I've noticed that when my gliders first wake up, their noses will be purple for a few minutes. I've also noticed a purple nose when they are cold and right after anesthesia.

In my opinion any of the following, sneezing without grooming, runny and purple nose with possible fast breathing, could be an indication of a cold or respiratory infection.

I have had a glider to the vet with low blood sugar which had a pale nose.

Some say a red nose together with sneezing and a runny nose is more of an indication of sinus infection.

Red, I've seen with fever and an infection, as well as when they are getting too hot.

I also have one glider that has a runny nose from time to time but checks out healthy at each vet's visit.

This is all based on what I have experienced with my own gliders. Change is what we are looking for, therefore it is imperative to know each individual glider and characteristics.

I do have a very light mosaic who is several years old and she has always had a pale nose. I think it has to do with her pigmentation not her health. She is healthy. So know your glider, know what is normal for it.

I absolutely agree, as with everything; behaviors, appetite, activity level, coloration, etc. - know your gliders. Know what is normal for them so that you can quickly recognize changes and respond.

Dangerous colors:
Yellow means jaundice (which you will often see in ears and feet as well). Jaundice is pretty much always a very serious and life threatening concern in gliders.

Blueish means that they aren't getting enough oxygen in their system. There are several things that can cause it, all of them can be (immediately) life threatening. Their tongue and gums will appear blueish tinted as well.

I also agree, it is imperative to know the normal color so you can decide if your glider is sick or it is normal. My two gliders have different nose colors, Sydney's is a dark pink (and always has been so I know she is healthy), and Victoria's is a lighter pink. This just shows how nose colors can vary from glider to glider.
