Is it normal for a glider to bark everyday? He always barks around 7:25am (which is right before my alarm goes off at 7:30). So he barks, and then I'll get up and pet him and he hops into his sleeping tent. I've read that it's usually to warn another if something moves, but one- I don't have another glider, and two- nothing moves in my room besides me.

Doesn't sound like a problem to me other then your glider has trained you get up before your alarm goes off so you have to time pet him before he goes to bed and you go off for your day. LOL smart little cookies of course I can't say much my 11 always know when I am up as the second my feet hit the floor there come the barks away from them until I go down and give everyone a yorgie.

I agree with Dani, you are well trained. This is especially true when you are giving them a treat each time they bark, like Dani above... There can be a lot of different reasons why gliders bark, it could be to get your attention, or the attention of another glider. My one boy will bark if he sees danger (ant, spider, mosquito, etc) in the room. He will jump in my shirt as I open the cage door to see what is going on and he will continue to bark until I find whatever he saw and remove it. The other kid likes to bark and show me how he can run his wheel or just for some loving. As soon as I tell him "mommy loves you honey" he is fine and I can go back to sleep or play. This is their way of communication, not all gliders are vocal. We always play in the evenings in the glider room, but we started to play each morning around 5am, when the alarm goes off, and we don't get up immediately, our one boy will start barking until we get up. He doesn't do it every morning, but most mornings. Clever little stinker he is.

That was what MoJo did when he was a lonesome little boy. First time I heard it, I couldn't quite figure out what the noise was...turned down the TV, walked back to the room & flipped the light on (no noise now!), turn it back off & just sit down....YIP! YIP! YIP! Wha???? Repeat the process 2-3 times, then I figured out he was trying to tell me "Hey, don't leave me in this big room ALONE!!!" The barking stopped the MINUTE I brought Minka home. Little stinker!

Yep, they bark for several reasons. My Bug LOVES to bark - she'll do so to get me to come back to their room. As soon as I walk in, she stops. All she wanted was ME in the room. She'll also bark when the others have gone into the pouch to rest. If she's not ready to rest, she'll let them know. She'll stand at the top of the pouch and bark until someone comes out to play with her. Bandit barks when there's a bug in the room, just like G-Girl's little boy. I can turn the light on, pet him, hold him - nothing will quiet him if there's a bug. And, he won't stop barking until I've squished it, picked it up and he hears the flush of the toilet. Then, all's well with the world. Teeka and Penny? They don't bark often at all, but when they do, I think it's just because they like to hear their voices lol

My girls bark during the time they're ready to mate. They do a few small barks then this hissing nose. I feel sooo sorry for my little male. Hes all by himself and has two handle to females at different times of the month! Its quite funny though... they chase him around! The only other time mine barks now is if my boyfriend whose been around since ive got them and are thus bonded to him as well, is gone for a weekend. Then his favorite Pickles barks at odd hours of the night. Then he gets back from visiting family and she stops! He says when i go home too Precious barks for me. My sweet babies! My little boy, has never barked... unless hes dreaming! He barks in his sleep its adoreable! They did in the beginning start barking right before my alarm went off. I used to get up all worried something was wrong but no... they just learned it got me out of bed and gave them stuff. So i stopped and then so did they after awhile... but they're persistent!

Let's see here... Fritz has barked a bit in his sleep, lol. Way too cute! He's also barked to wake me up at 4am because he didn't get his normal out of cage time, lol. Little stinker. He's barked VERY excitedly when he was let loose in a HUGE tent when my BF & I went camping (2 minutes later he had caught a first bug & half of it was gone before I could tell what it was, lol). He's barked just to get my attention. Other than that, most of his noises are VERY quiet.

I've also discovered that Hiccup sings to me? He'll be either climbing on me or looking at me in his cage and he'll start making this... I don't know, singing sound haha What's that all about?

Don't know about the 'singing' but barks are definitely either loneliness, simply trying to locate MORE gliders, or because they want you to something THEY want. Gliders are smart and are normally pretty successful in telling you what they want. And they have noooo problem getting it either. Wish I had THAT power with my mom!

gliders are very smart animals. [although i agree that sometimes they just like to hear themselves, mine sure do sometimes !]
example #1: when i had my 1st pair back in 2001 i had to sleep with the radio on. if i didn't sleep with it on, Trynyti and Saige would bark at me to turn it on. once i did it was quiet.
example #2: back when Jeff and i were 1st starting out in 2008, he'd spent a month [Aug 2008] with me bc my stepdad was in the hospital and i didn't know how to handle it. when he'd went home for good, he'd call me every night [and b4 he spent the month with me] to say "good night". well, Lacee started to recognize his ringtone ! she'd bark at me whenever Jeff was on the phone until i would put him on speaker so he could TALK to her !! when he would be there she would peek out the hole in the blanket and look at him and bark at him til he responded to her.

RIP my sweet babies, mommy loves you!
