I don't know how old my joey is. I got her from a breeder on Saturday and I have been waiting forever to pick her up. I don't think she's too young. She looks like an adult glider, only smaller. I know that the breeder started hand feeding her about 2 weeks ago. She has looked like an adult glider for at least 2 weeks (because she sent me pictures then). I'm assuming she is about 6-8weeks. The breeder was feeding her BML through a dropper and I did that for a couple of days, but now she will lap it up from a spoon. I have a few water bottles and bowls in her cage, but I gave her pedialyte for the past few days in case she wasn't drinking it. I am feeding her 3 times a day (about 1/2 teaspoon each time) and I leave her BML, fruit, yogurt, and baby food at night but I don't think she's eating it.

She is sleeping in an aquarium in a large cage. There is a heating pad under the aquarium set on "low" in case she gets cold. She usually sleeps in the pouch that's in the aquarium, but she climbs out and plays in the cage all night long. I take her to work with me in a sports bra and she sleeps a lot. She has only crabbed once today so I know she is bonding well.

Any ideas on how old she is or what my next step should be with feeding her?

Thanks.

aging is difficult, a picture would be helpful... there's a site somewhere with pictures of joeys at different ages that would be helpful, if I can find it (or someone else)

is her tail fluffy?

her tail looks like that. it's full of hair, but not totally fluffy. her coloring looks like that and her eyes are wide open. i don't know how to get her to eat on her own...how do i know if she is actually eating? how much should i feed her and how often? i want her to be healthy...

well - you're in the right place to find help, sadly I have no experience with joeys (other than when mine were young) and can offer no more help than to wish you good luck and say someone should be along with experience and advice!

Can you contact the breeder and find out what her out of pouch date is? That would really help. It is sad that she was sold so young. But now the important thing is to get her eating on her own.

Normally joeys are with their parents until weened, or 8-10 weeks out of pouch and don't need to be hand fed (unless they were rejected by the parents).

Is your glider going potty on her own or do you have to stimulate her?

If you go to this site http://www.suzsugargliders.com/handraisingajoey.htm#62329863 there are some pictures of joeys at different ages. These might help you determine about how old your glider is. There is some great information on how to hand feed and ween your glider.

i think she is at least 8 weeks out of pouch. i was looking at her tail tonight and it is fluffy. i think that the breeder was just handfeeeding her to bond??? i'll ask her. i put some bml very close to her pouch tonight and i hope she'll eat some before morning. i'm going to have some tent time with her tomorrow and i'll see if she will eat then.
