HELP!!! We think our mom isn’t producing enough milk! The glider parents seem concerned, but our 2-week OOP boy seems weak, skinny and malnourished. We don’t have a scale, but attached a picture so you can see how skinny he is. His cries are really weak, and he defiantly hasn’t gained any weight in the last few days. Should we start supplementing his food by feeding him every few hours? What should we do? Mom and Dad are good glider-parents, as far as we can tell. HELP!!!!!

Yes, with the weak cries sounds like your little one is not getting enough to eat. You need to go and read: How to hand feed a joey. under BREEDING & BABIES sticky post at the top of the page. This will tell you what you will need to do and how often. Please check it out ASAP and let us know how this little one is doing.

Best of Luck.

Sheila,
I am trying to PM you back, but it says you are over your limit so it won't let me send it!

Okay, well, we have decided to help supplement his diet for the next couple of days, then judge whether or not we need to fully take over hand-raising him or whether it's just something our glider-parents are going through. We tried a little bit of the gliderade supplement, then discovered that he LOVED the BML version baby formula. Any advice on how many times a day to supplement? Thanks all!

At 2 weeks oop, he needs to be fed about every 2 hours. If the parents show any agression towards him or if you find him by himself and cold, you will have to take over completely. Please go to this site and read about hand feeding a joey. The information and photos are invaluable.

Judge not until you have walked in their shoes and lived their lives. What you see online is only part of the story.

Also feed your mama plenty of mealworms to help her produce milk. Chicken, yogurt... whatever she'll eat.

Does she stay in the pouch a lot?

She comes out of the pouch more than Dad comes out, but we have found him a little cold twice. We warmed him up and Mom took right back over, cleaning and fussing over him again after we gave him back. We started supplementing his diet last night, about every 4 hours or so since she is still letting him nurse. We have been watching them like hawks (I'm sure they are more than annoyed with us by now and it seems that Mom lets the baby nurse a lot, he just isn't getting the milk he needs.

[:"green"]From looking at the picture, he is definitely undernourished & possibly verging on dehydration. You should start to supplement feed him at least every 4 hours, but I would recommend checking him every two hours to see if he needs to be fed or not. Please keep us posted on how he does with this...
