I'm not a breeder, but I was reading about it. breeders, do they do a home inspection? If so, what do they look for? What fee do they charge you to be licensed? registered? <- the difference?

By "they" I am assuming you mean the USDA. You can't get a USDA license unless you have more than three breeding females. The one girl I talked to in person about it said that, in her area at least, it was a total joke. *She* was telling the inspector what to look for and what to feed gliders; the inspector had never even heard of a sugar glider before, much less seen one. But I have since read other members here that have said their USDA inspectors were very, very picky: food had to be stored properly and rotated, cages kept very clean, floors and walls around cages clean, etc. So I guess it depends on who you get! I am unsure of the costs as I haven't done this myself. I may in the future, though for now I am happy to be a small, small breeder.

It's a joke around here. My initial inspection took less than 10 minutes before I was approved (probably less than even 5 minutes, really!). The USDA costs are fixed, and can probably be found on their site; but the vet needs to come to your home, and that cost varies a LOT. I've heard of anywhere from $50 to over a thousand, depending on the vet and how picky they want to be.

Well - I don't think I'm going to become a USDA licensed breeder anyday soon. I definitely don't have 3 breeding females. But, I was curious about the process. I am in upstate NY and I'm not sure how many licensed breeders there are in this area.
