I finally noticed this thread about 2 days ago. It took me a while to read from the beginning till today to finally catch up. First off I want to say WOW this community rocks. I just love all the caring and supportive people that are on here. This is why I joined this forum. Second: Brandi, you are in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this with Simba. When I first started reading about Simba, I will honestly say I was crying and had to wipe my eyes a lot to continue reading. I would read, cry, wipe my eyes and pray then back to reading. Brandi, you are such an awesome strong lady and wonderful mom to your babies. (In my next life I want to be a sugar glider and have you as my mommy) Simba, I am thinking and praying for you every day that you recover from this and that you will soon be back with your wife. Brandi, I am sending prayers and thoughts your way as well. Thank you for sharing the heartwarming photo's of your babies. They are so precious.

To a given degree, I concur with the concept of going ahead with the amputation and moving forward with healing and the happy reunion. The only thing that I'm thinking about Brandi (and I'm sure both you and your vet are looking at things from this angle as well) is that Simba needs a little time to build up some strength. He's been through a LOT here of late, and needs a little recoup time before his body is assaulted by yet ANOTHER invasive procedure. On the flip side of the record, if he is getting depressed from being away from his family and not eating, this can't be ignored either. It's going to be harder to get his strength built up if he's refusing anything you give him. You're in very good hands between Mary, Bourbon, and your vet. Know that I'm sitting in the "cheering section" with many others here on the board, praying that there's a good prognosis SOON for Simba.

Hey all! Just got off the phone with Brandi. Last night and this morning, Simba was favoring his butt a bit and seemed to be hurting. She took him in to the vet this afternoon and what happens just as soon as she gets there? He prolapsed. But, right in front of the vet tech so at least it happened while she was there!!! The vet is going to examine him again this afternoon and make the determination of where they move from here. Simba will either go home with the vet tonight (Brandi and I both think it's just because he's gotten attached to Simba and wants to keep him...lol) or Brandi will again get him for the night and bring him back tomorrow. Sorry for the short update, but that's the gist of things right now. As soon as I hear from Brandi again I'll post again.

Brandi just texted me and said Simba definitely needs to have surgery in the morning. Of course, it has to be two days BEFORE payday, so she's scrambling to scrape the money together. I suggested a post dated check but she said that's against the law in FL now.
Anyone have any ideas for her???

If she can't get CareCredit maybe she could write a check dated for the day of the surgery and the person who takes the deposits to the bank just 'forgets' to take it til payday. Not REALLY a post-dated check. This vet's done so much for her already surely they would do this for her. Maybe they would need to know if she has direct deposit etc. or maybe a statement from her employeer that payroll has already been started for her for enough to cover the costs of the surgery & that she gets paid on 'x' day. There HAS to be a way. In the morning is Thursday. Assuming her payday is Friday they'd only be leaving her check out of one deposit depending on when they go to the bank. If they go in the afternoons her check only gets left out of deposits for one day. Then deposited on Friday ~ if that's her payday. Not sure how fast that vet's electronic checking is but most places I write checks I could write the check on Thursday & it wouldn't even clear before Friday payday. But I do know that some are zippity quick right out of your account.

I was going to say Care Credit too, I think they have 6 and 12 month intrest free plans, where as long as she pays off the balance in that amount of time, there's no interest added....even if she got the 6 month plan and paid maybe $75 a month, surely that would cover the cost of the surgery....
Connie, if not, PM me, I have an idea....in fact, Aimee or Brandi can PM me too if the Care Credit is not an option....

So glad to hear that! Hoping for a successful surgery tomorrow morning and a FAST recup time (if that's possible). Don't let that vet steal him- LOL! sounds like he's already stole his heart!

With Simba, it's easy to fall in love with him! He was a rejected joey and Brandi hand raised him. Rejected joeys grow up to be exceptionally spoiled and closely bonded suggies!

Connie, Don't forget Eric helped hand raise him too! Remember my blackmail picture? I'm trying to get Simba to eat something. The vet said to try to get him to eat and drink at least a little, but no food after midnight. He isn't wanting anything to do with his food. Any suggestions on how to get him to eat? What if I dipped his fruit and veggies in honey? He just needs to eat something. He barely touched his food last night, hasn't eaten at all today, and probably wont be eating tomorrow.

Vanilla ensure, organic peanut butter.
Why doesn't he want him to eat after midnight? Gliders have such a high metabolism, they can't go that many hours without eating. When mine go in for a neuter or any other surgery that has been needed, they are allowed to eat up to two hours before surgery.

Baby food mango, mixed berry yogurt, Hawaiian Delight baby food...MARSHMALLOWS!!....any damsel flies being attracted by the evening porch light? (some call them "skeeter-eaters", they look like HUGE mosquitoes)...how about looking at flowers that haven't been sprayed/powdered with insecticides or fertilizers?...do you have any glider-safe houseplants that you might be able to entice him to nibble on? I'm sure that he feels your stress levels and your desperation to get him to eat something.....the harder you try to force him, the harder he's going to resist. (a lot of vets have this mind-set, Connie: they transfer what they learned in school about larger animals such as cats/dogs having ANYTHING in their stomaches pre-op and apply the same concept to our micro-mini animals... )

If he can be syringe fed and wont eat then awesome he needs to get stronger fast so syringe him. I have to disagree with the ensure in this case because if he is not eating and drinking enough it could turn to clay in the intestines and then he would have more trouble. Thanks, Cora! I thought ensure was an issue only if there was dehydration present.

Sending more prayers Simba's way. I hope the surgery goes smoothly tomorrow.
I agree syringe feed him, mash up some avocado, add some green juice to liquify it.
Feed him anything he will eat even if it is junk food, calories are calories at this point.

I ended up giving him supervised visitation with Izzy and Nala hoping that would help. It's not like the visitation is going to hurt him any more. He has already prolapsed. I made sure they didn't mess with his rear. After he had visitation I immediately tried to feed him again. He did take a little more of the glidershake but thats it. I think I will leave the glidershake in his incubator tonight. The vet said no foods but didn't say no liquids. I made sure it was diluted a little so it wont be too creamy and thick. If he will drink some of that then that will at least get a little nutrients and vitamins in him before his big surgery. I think I will let him see his family again in the morning before I take him to the vet. Maybe it will help him mentally and he will do better during and after his surgery?
