Thank you again to everyone for the kind words and prayers. I just spoke to my vets office. Petey had liver disease. Although (thankfully) he had not started to show any symptoms, his liver was enlarged and very mottled throughout. It is something that would have killed him down the road, only he would have suffered first. No matter what meds I had given, most likely it would have done the same thing, as all meds are processed through the liver and kidneys. I had no idea, since he had not shown any issues, had not even lost weight, so I take comfort in that he never had to suffer with the liver problems and I was spared having to watch him go through that. I still miss him and always will, but feel a little less guilt. But I did learn some very valuable lessons in regards to the meds and what they can possibly do. Hopefully it will save others from having that happen. I am not saying 'don't use torb', as it is a good drug when needed but there are other pain options (Buprenex is not as hard on them, although it is morphine based, so is still somewhat sedating). And with any pain meds (or any drugs for that matter) if you are questioning something in your mind, don't just do what I did (maybe its this, maybe its that)....call your vet, let them know. It may save your gliders life. And for anyone that does use torb or any of the narcotic pain meds, NOW.....ask your vets if they have the meds that can counter those drugs (I can't think of the name, but it begins with the letter "N", your vet will know. Make sure they have that on hand....if you need it, you will want them to have it. So good to tell your vets they need to get that and keep it on hand, as not all vets do.)

So, I hope Petey can rest in peace. I have pain in my heart that he is gone and that will always be here. But I do have some peace in knowing he did not have to suffer. Maybe it was a gift in some way.....to not have to have him suffer. He had done enough of that in his life before he came here, and I think God knew that. He is with Roo, they are complete again and I know I will see them again. So I do get peace from knowing all this.

Love your gliders.....every one of them is a precious gift and you never know what tomorrow holds for them or you.....so don't miss that opportunity to show them your love today.

And again, thank you to everyone.

RIP MY SWEET ANGEL PETEY....I LOVE YOU ALWAYS.

It sounds like you gave him such a wonderful life compared to what he had before! I am so glad you gave him a life with love!

I am so sorry for what you are going through.. I wish there was anything I could say hug2

~~~Mary, if there is anyway you could get the name of that drug I would really like to know. The vet I use now is a text book vet so he may not actually know what I am talking about if I ask him. Thank you!
I am sorry I have not been back.....been very hard dealing with Petey being gone. Still in shock. But I wanted to give the name of the drug that counteracts Torb (and any narcotic based drug) when there are adverse effects (in Petey's case, it would not have worked because he was put into liver failure instantaneously). It is called naloxone
and it is something your vet should keep on hand. I hope no one ever needs it, but better to be sure it is immediately available if they do!
