I'd like some opinions on these two diets please. If you feed it to your gliders, how do they like it? Is preparation easy? Components easily obtainable? Currently I feed the Blended diet. I'm soliciting information on these other ones so I can change things up for my gliders once in a while for the diversity. Thanks!

We do not feed any of above mentioned diets. Someone with advice will be around soon.

If you browse through past threads here in diet & Nutrition, you'll find a few about HPW Complete and Suncoast both, the Complete more recently, I believe. It's very simple...you add water to the mix and freeze it - that's it for preparation. I don't know anything about the Suncoast, sorry, someone else will need to help with that. However, let me say that you really need to choose a diet and stick with it, not change things up. Each diet has ratios attached to it that make each one nutritionally sound for your gliders. By switching diets back and forth, you're messing with the ratio your gliders need to stay healthy. My advice...stick with the Blended if your monkeys are eating it well.

I feed the HPW Complet and I absolutely LOVE it! So do my gliders. I love how easy it is to prepare. Just add the powder and water and voila! My gliders coats have gotten better since switching to the Complete and they have more energy than they did before. Here is the website for the HPW Complete and you can contact Peggy (the creator of the diet) if you have any questions. She is super nice and very quick with getting back to you on any questions you may have and super fast with shipping as well! http://www.hpwplus.com/default.htm

The great thing with the blended diet is that you don't need to change things up because you can feed virtually any (safe) fruit and veggie that is out there! So if you want variety in your gliders' diet, that is the way to do it... not by changing staples.

I use the HPW Plus...it's just as easy to prepare as the Complete, add ingredients and blend...then freeze! The Complete can also be made nightly (2 TBSP water to 1 TBSP hpw complete powder...thats for one glider) without having to freeze it. So the Complete does have that option The only ingredient I have to buy online is the HPW Plus powder...the bee pollen granules I get at a health food store, the rest walmart!

DC, I don't really see where you're coming from on not changing the staple diet if one assures the individual diets are maintained. Am I missing something here? It also sounds as though the HPW Complete is something that I could substitute for the Blended diet. I say this because it seems they both use assorted fruits and veggies.

The blended diet is more of a "blending" of the hpw and the bml diets, so there is a lot more ingredients. The hpw plus and complete both have a ca:ph ratio of 2:1 so you have way more freedom in the fruits and veggies you choose to offer with the hpw.

I have been using the HPW Complete for 2-3 months and they clean their plates. I can mix it with fruit and veggie chunkies (chunkier version of smoothies ) and they love it! You can mix a smaller batch and leave it in a pourable container for distributing each night. It keeps for 5 days. I prefer to mix a bigger batch and freeze into ice cubes. I tried the HPW Plus, but they didn't like it. Both their coats are better, it's super easy, and they love it.... it's a winner for me. Plus Peggy is super nice if you have questions!

Actually Steph, that's the amount for TWO gliders fresh made everynight, not one I use HPW Complete and since I find it a pain to defrost because my babies won't go near it if it's frozen, I make it fresh everynight. 2 Tablespoons water and 1 Tablespoon HPW Complete powder - mix it up really well until all the powder is dissolved and done! Even making it fresh everynight, it takes me less than 2 minutes. I agree though, you don't want to switch up staples for diversity, giving one staple for a month and then switching to another staple for a few weeks. You need to pick one diet staple and stick with it and provide variety by offering different fruits, veggies, and treats. If they're eating a staple, why mess with a good thing? If they're not eating the staple, switch to another diet, but stick with that one, don't switch up the staple....

I switch between the HPW Complete and Priscilla Price diet. My gliders absolutely love the HPW complete and it is much much easier to prepare then the PP diet. When I first got gliders I did feed the suncoast diet, eventually thou my gliders stopped eating portions of it which thru off the ratios. My vet recommended I feed a couple of the approved diets, as long as I prepare and serve them as directed each is nutrionally sound in its own right so they are getting complete nutrition each night..... and my babies are eating better with the variety. My kids are actually getting bloodwork again this thursday to check there overall health and the Ca:P ratio again now that I added in the HPW complete for a couple months....

I agree that sticking to one diet would be nice but then I think to myself, would I want to eat the same thing (staple) day in and day out? Nope. That's what got me on this roll. I think what I'll try is the HPW complete and rotate it every other month with the Blended diet I've been feeding them. Worse comes to worse I'll just revert back to the Blended diet.

I just started feeding the HPW Complete this past week via the trial packs. My gliders have been fed Blended for the last two years, and sometimes they'll lick their bowls clean, sometimes there's a lot left over. I was trying to find ways to trick them into eating the Blended, pour it over veggies, etc. With the HPW complete they've been licking their bowls clean every single night.. I think I may def. be ordering a permanent stash of HPW Complete.

I did the Suncoast with great results. I do prefer their Wholesome Balance over the Zookeeper/Insectivore however for the staple. Maybe my gliders are weird, but they will get up occasionally during the day and seeming think I'm up anyways so why don't I have a snack. With staples that spoil more quickly you can't leave them in the cage so that is not an option. I have also done quite a bit of reading on soy and while eating it occasionally is not too bad, I could not with good conscience incorporate it into my or my pets' daily diet. Also, the staple is not meant as entire diet, day in and day out. You could think about it like ok this might be a bad example but if you order chinese take out here there is a large variety on the menu with different meat and vegetable options, but they always give you a side of rice with it. I would say you can think of rice as the staple food portion of the diet. Maybe I get too excited about my General Tso chicken, but my gliders seem to get just as excited over a chunk of mellon or a cricket. Doesn't mean I don't eat my rice or they don't eat their staple.

Well, as far of staples and eating the same thing day in and day out...gliders live in trees in and generally, while they may have some variation in diet with minimal season changes, their diet in the wild remains pretty constant. My gliders for example have been eating all types of melon and peas for almost 6 years. They still to this day eat it all up (I only give a little melon as they aren't big fruit eaters, but they do go for the watermelon and canteloupe). Gliders are actually creatures of routine, so for mine anyway, they don't seem to mind eating the same things as long as I ROTATE which fruits and veggies I offer...that's how I offer diversity and make sure they're not being offered the same exact thing everynight. As for the staple, like I said if your gliders are eating a staple, whether it be the Complete or Blended, why mess with a good thing, stick with it! Lucky you that you aren't being tortured by your gliders' pickiness lol! However, we all have to make our own decisions for our gliders, so do whatever you think will be best for them

I'm going to smack myself in the head for asking this question, but in the HWP Complete diets, she mentions 1 T of Superfood Green Juice (optional). What is this Superfood Green Juice? I'm sorry for the inexperience, but trying to do a little background into different diets as I'm learning more about potentially wanting to adopt a pair of sugar gliders. Thanks
