Hello: I didn't know where to post this but I was so excited about a book on gliders that I found and bought online for a penny. I started to flip through it and I was immeditlatly befuddled by things such as feeding cat food and using leashes... can some peeps tell me if I am wasting my time with this book or if it does have some beneficial info in it? Thanks, Lark

That's hard to comment on without having never read the book. sounds a little sketchy to me. It looks like an older book and a lot of the care/ diet standards have changed since gliders were first being kept as pets.
Proud Mom to Princess Pim The Insane. (and several other babies, skin and fur.)
Dogs have owners. Cats have staff. Gliders have indentured servants.
Dexter. You left blueberry stains on my wall and pawprints on my heart. I love you Decker-Boy. Full Moon Gliders(Under Construction)

Lauren is correct. It's an okay book, ten years ago... So much has been found out through research that though some info is good in there, most is not, which leaves the book severely outdated. Other books have been published since then, which have updated information. The only other thing I can tell you is to stick here.

yeah I jus saw the copyright... 1997. NUTS! I love to read books as Idont always have access to my computer or phone so I always make sure I have a book. it was talking about feeding cat food and I was like... wait! hold on, something ain't right. This board is very helpful I'll absolutely stay here but are there any books that are respected in the glider community?

There ARE some good parts (few though they might be) that come in handy....for instance, the safe/poisonous plants listing has SOME of the many things that gliders can have...the anatomy section (boy parts/girl parts) and what a pregnant female looks like are OK for starting references...but I'll agree with Lauren on the diet section: I literally put a staple through that entire part (and as I'm leafing through it, another staple belongs through the "how to build your own cage" section----GALVANIZED WIRE CAUSES SERIOUS HEALTH ISSUES and should NOT be used!!) Actually, you'd be better off to invest in Peggy Brewer's book that she published a couple years ago. (I have a link to it somewhere....maybe....) It was written by SEVERAL glider-knowledgeable people on this board and would have MUCH MUCH MORE reliable information in it. Aha! I found it... http://www.amazon.com/Sugar-Gliders-Living-Caring-Right/dp/1425944647 Yes it's a little more expensive than Caroline's book...but I'd bet TEN shiny pennies that I wouldn't be running my stapler through it either!

I got that old book 3 years ago when I got my first suggie. The breeder gave it to me when we bought her. Just found out here recently he was a mill breeder... but looking back on that book, so much of it is out dated and wrong. Learned a lot since reading that book!
