I'm sure this question has been asked, but if you feed a glider HPW Complete or Plus do you have to give them the fruit/veggie relish that the website recommends or can you give them you're own blend of fruits/veggies?

You can choose your own fruits and vegetables but you need to keep the calcium to phosphorus ratios in mind - More calcium than phosphorus.

You do not have to feed the recommended fruits and vegetables that are posted. Those are for those who want an idea of what to feed and what not to feed.

You do want to choose a Variety of fruits and vegetables and feed things in moderation.

You do NOT want to over feed foods that are too high in calcium as the powders are already a 2:1 not to mention most (not all) foods that are high in calcium are also high in oxalates.

These two Powders were created so folks do not have to worry about the *ratios* as there is SO MUCH MORE than just the calcium and phosphorus to be concerned with.

If fed foods in moderation and a variety, the diet will be a well rounded and balanced diet.

If you have any questions about the HPW Plus or the HPW Complete please feel free to email me at Critterlove@critterlove.com

You can certainly feed your own mixture of fruits and veggies. thumb Just give them a nice healthy mix. Variety is the biggest thing. Calcium to phosphorus ratios are not the only nutritional value to keep in mind. Just don't stress about it too much and make sure to feed a variety.

Off the top of my head some of the fruits and veggies we feed are: raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, apples, oranges, grapes, watermelon, carrots, green leaf lettuce, mustard greens, peas, green beans, chard. We're using HPW Plus.

ETA: Peggy posted all you need to know while I was typing. tounge

So it's still okay to use fruits/veggies from the "safe list" when feeding HPW Plus or Complete?

I have a sample of HPW Plus that I will be making as soon as we finish off this last little bit of HPW. I'm excited to try it because they don't seem that gung-ho about the HPW. I think the green juice is going to reel them in. My gliders are super picky about their fruits/veggies, so I'd like to make a blend of what they like that is on the "safe" list.

Thanks!!!!

YES!!! Really folks just need to relax and enjoy your gliders. Feed a variety of foods and feed them in moderation (In other words do NOT just feed corn alone every night for dinner nor papaya....)

Dont sweat over the ratio thing....really....Just use Common Sense. grin

I really love this diet so far, I'm one of those Not A Math Person type people and having a list of suggested mixtures to go with an easy, relatively cheap diet (seriously I spent a total of $24 at the grocery buying EVERY ingredient for the mixtures, every single one since I had an empty fridge and it is lasting a long time--that is SUPER cheap). I was on BML before but only found it hard to find the right ingredients if our local store was out of the right baby food. This diet I keep the powder stored in the freezer, make 1/2 cup of it at a time and it lasts a while so I won't worry about running out at 8pm. Plus less than 5 minutes to blend together and stick in the freezer..I have NO excuses now to be lazy on making their food.

My food on the other hand.. blush Let's see, Ramen noodles, raspberries, and Vanilla Coke.. HMM..
