So, I'm worried that Gabby isn't healing well because she's not eating enough. :-(
I've been feeding her the last couple days with a syringe. I was wondering what a good amount of food (mL) would be to try to get her to eat? Any ideas? Other than just trying to feed her as much as she'll take.

She's about a year old now, maybe a couple months over.

What diet do you have her on? At a year old she should be eating happy and healthy. If she is not and you are force feeding by syring, she may be real sick and needs vet care asap. How much is she eating one her own?

She's on BML. She's been having issues healing from her tail amputation and she got an infection in her thumbs from ripping her nails out trying to get the e-collar off. I think she might be a little depressed from this whole ordeal. :-( I know she eats because the inside of her collar is covered with chewed up BML leftovers (i was just told that is normal). I just dont think she's eating as much as she used to. So i'd rather feed her by hand as much as I can so that I know she's at least eating that much.

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hug2.gif" alt="" />Aww poor girl is having a rough time. Lucky she has a doting Mom like you.

She will be stressed with the collar and the injuries she has. It is normal for her to loose some appitite because of this. This is why you are keeping a close eye on her like you are.

Do you weigh her every day to monitor her weight. This is the best way to tell if she is not getting enough or doing well. I've not had to deal with what you are going through so I'm not sure on how fast or slow she should be healing.

Just be sure that you weigh her at the SAME time each day. I've found from experience that a glider's weight can fluctuate up to 5 grams per day depending on when they are weighed.

It can be hard for them to eat...and to swallow...in the ecollar. If I can recommend...make the BML without the wheat germ, (or egg shells, if you use that)-or try Ensure, and use babyfood fruits/veggies....things she can lick up instead of fighting with. Riker couldn't swallow solid fruits/veggies in the collar. And offer in bird feeders that will fit in the collar, so she has more independence (you may still have to hand feed some, but it's worth a try)-I had as many as 7 feeders for Riker at any one time....Ensure, 2 babyfood fruits, 2 babyfood veggies, water, and either Kerns nectar or Gliderade. If I felt he didn't eat enough, I fed the same foods to him off a spoon in my lap-by syringe if necessary, though once I changed from BML to Ensure, he liked it so much the syringe was no longer needed.

I'll attach a pic of the feeders (what they look like put together after coming out of the package)....then I'll attach a pic of them in the package.
