I was wondering I brought some sand paper from the hardware store and was wondering if it is ok to put in my wodent wheel. I have it in there right now just not in the cage. Is it ok.

I believe the reccomended grit is around 400, and of the wet/dry variety... since the wodent wheel is solid I would be apprehensive about using it... as John said, their pads shouldn't touch the sand paper and I don't think you can avoid it with a wodent wheel... if you're trying to keep nails down, you could try about 3 inches of sand paper (so it's only on part of the wheel) and only leave it a couple hours to see how the gliders react and to ensure no damage is being done to their pads

I suggest at least 600 grit aluminum oxide free water proof... it is hard to find but you can have it ordered from your hardware store... i put it in for about 4 days... however i wouldn't put it in a wodent b /c they can run directly on it which is not good

I velcro in a 5 inch long piece of sandpaper in my wheel. It doesn't hurt their feet because when they are going in the wheel the majority of the time they hit the plastic not the sand paper. Now if you were to put sand paper all the way around the inside it would hurt because they would constantly be hitting the sand paper with their feet and it would rub blisters and sores. I found that by just putting in the section of sand paper they only hit it every now and then and I leave it in all the time and can just pull it out for cleaning. Like TMarie said make sure to use the aluminum oxide free kind, the very fine grit! This may not work for everyone but it works for me and my babes. They always have the perfect length nails and I inspect their feet daily just to make sure they have no blisters or skin tears.
LOL, Kat

With Stealths, you can attach the paper on the outside and face the grit side inward... We took Peggy's advice and tape it with duct tape about 6 inches worth.
But I have found it's just as easy and really much more proficient and beneficial to just clippie the nails. That way you don't have to worry about the paper bit at all.

There is a nail trimmer track for the wodent wheel from suncoast. Instead of getting an all new wheel, I would just order that. You just put it in for a couple days when their nails start getting long.

Also you can get a rain gutter cover its a white grid of plastic cut it to fit inside the woodent wheel and put the sand paper inbetween the track and the grid works well.
