I realize that this is virtually impossible with gliders.

But is there a way to tell when they have to go potty?

What does their body language look like when they have to go?

After doing their buisiness and going into the tent, how long will I have before they need to go again?

Looking forward to being owned by gliders.

im sure they all are different but mine go almost immediately. Right when they come out of pouch and jump onto me, i can expect it. When pooping, the raise their butt up just alittle bit and they dont move. Thats when i know that poopies are going to land on me. Stinks but what are you gunna do?

Some might give signs and others not so much.

You cant tell when Nanuks gonna go. And he doesnt care WHERE he goes smile

I do know he will come out of his hammock to "go"... but anywhere else is a russian roulette...

I dont mind though. I'm a mom... I've had every possible human biohazard on me at some point or another.. shakehead

the little bit these guys do is a piece of cake... grin

Getting some pee and poo on you is all part of glider ownership. Some go immediately, others wait 10-15 minutes after they wake up. Some give signs, as has been mentioned, others not so much. Each glider is different as to how long they wait to go again as well.

Oh and don't forget, they don't just pee and poo, they MARK you! roflmao

Mine tend to lift their tails before they go, but that isn't much notice!

I actually have an extra pair of old pants that are my "playtime" pants. Ours tend to go when they come out of the pouch, which is usually on my lap. But, they will go here and there as well. I am amazed that such little bodies have such big bladders! laugh

My gliders don't warn me at all! They just go when they please. When they have to poop, they do arch their tails up at the base. That's when I know it's time to grab the toilet paper, lol... smile

I realize that this is virtually impossible with gliders.

But is there a way to tell when they have to go potty?

With some gliders YES with others NO

What does their body language look like when they have to go?

Their tails and sometimes their butts go WAY up

After doing their buisiness and going into the tent, how long will I have before they need to go again?

This can vary with every glider, just like humans, we dont all have the same schedule either. It can also be affected by what they eat

Will this happen often? I really want to avoid pee on me and my carpets. smile

Getting peed and pooed on is inevitable. It will happen. Be thankful if you dont accidentally drink glider pee in your coffee. Most of the pee and poo will end up on YOU, not your carpets.

MARK ME?! Woah, woah, woah... What? Months of research, and I've never heard this... Does it stink??? :O

Gliders mark a couple different ways. Rubbing their scent glands on you is one. The other is dribbles of peepee. As for stink? That depends on the glider and the diet. The boys may have a slightly muskier scent. My girls pee smells slightly musky-sweet when they first pee, but by the next day it doesnt smell as good. The boys just smell musky. Both are very lighty scented and most can barely smell it. Add alot of protein to the diet and the pee seems to smell stronger, and not as good.
Scent is also a very subjective thing. What I think smells good you may think stinks and vice-versa. Example: I LOVE the smell of horses. Horse poop is such a good smell roflmao

If you cant stand the pee and the poo, then a sugar glider is not for you

I know you are excited about glider ownership but this is one that can be a deal breaker for some parents. The marking smell can be significant. Glider pee and marking doesn't always come out of clothes either. Make sure your parents are aware of these things.

Yes, my father saw a video. An expert village video... I normally avoid those, but he decided to do a little research himself. smile

He saw a glider pee all the way up the woman's arm. I had read that this was avoidable, so when he was upset that they "pee everywhere", that's what I told him.

I will tell him that in some cases, it is unavoidable.

I won't be getting males. Will this minimize marking?

Mine go right when they first wake up, I just don't handle them until I see them go and everything is hunky-dory.

Nope. Females mark too. Marking is their way of making things "theirs", and that will include you as well. The reality is that a glider will pee/poo whenever and wherever they want. If they gotta go, they go...whether its on you, the couch, the carpet (although I don't let my gliders on the floor, so its unlikely it will be on the carpet), or in their cage. It is unavoidable.

Not so much that there are accidents, they will go on you most every time you have them out. If you take them out of their pouch and leave them in the cage, they will go in the cage. All that guarantees you is one less "potty time" on you. Once you take them out, you're fair game to them! smile We see it as them showing us how much the love us. grin

It doesn't just fall off? The poo, I mean. I can understands the pee getting soaked in, but wouldn't the poo just slide off?

It's just little pellets, right? Nothing like a ferret?

No, poos dont always just fall off. Yes, the poo usually comes in the form of a pellet but it isn't necessarily super firm or dry when it comes out. Depending on what they have had to eat, it can look like a pellet but be sticky. It can also be a little loose sometimes. Those definitely stick on you.
