I had some cinnimon twins out of pouch on the 3rd of july.
It is now the 23rd and they still have their eyes closed.
This is the first for me. I'm wondering if they detached from the nipple really early? They're pretty small. I may start suplement feeding. My gliders are on The Pet Glider diet the only differance is the fact that I feed zookeepers secret and not monkey biscuits. I'm not sure what's up with these guys - but they're moving along quite slowly. Any advice? Has anyone had this happen before?

Did you weigh them when they came oop? Are they gaining weight? If they are gaining weight then I would guess they may have came out a little early. If they are not gaining weight then I would probably supplement. Is it a first time momma?

One of my joeys came OOP about 1.5 weeks early. She was incredibly tiny, but still opened her eyes a few days after being OOP. Strangly, their age might not have anything to do with it.

Were they still pinkish when they did come OOP? This might be a sign of prematurity. I suppose there could also be the possibility of blindness?? I had just the opposite happen.. I had a female joey come OOP with her eyes open already.. but for the most part mine open thier eyes within 5-8 days of OOP.

I had a similar experience with one of my joeys, and I freaked out! But eventually they did open.

I would check their weight regularly but if developmentally they seem to be progressing (otherwise) I would wait a little longer. And I wouldn't supplement them unless they aren't gaining weight. Mom's milk is always better than what you could give them. If you are really concerned you could check with a vet about your options and what they would suggest.

When did the parents mate?
What are their weights now in grams?
Do you have a current picture of the joeys?

[:"green"]My guess is that the joeys came oop prematurely. Did they have any fur when they came out? Were their ears still folded flat on their heads? Were they mainly pink with just a few dark stripes/markings? These are all signs of coming oop prematurely...

As for supplementing them, I would only do so if they are not gaining weight or if there is some other indication that they are not getting the proper care from their mother.

Ok first of all I'd like to let everyone know I am an experianced breeder. I have seen pre-mature babies. These two are from a cinnimon pair of mine who have had 3 babies here with me, all of them being totally healthy, mom's great. Both parents are awesome. The babies did open their eyes today, it's is the 24th - so it took 21 days for it to happen. When these babies where born, they where oop at the normal time, they looked like normal babies with folded down ears, no eyes and a thin coat of hair. They are not gaining much weight, I am attaching a picture of the little female - next to my hand so you can see what she looks like at this age.

[:"green"]Ah, she's so sweet! And yes, she does appear to be tiny... I really don't know why it took so long for her eyes to open .

Kikster,
I have a set of twins here (not out of my gliders, but some being babysat) that are TINY too.. I didn't get them until they ere 4 weeks OOP, but they're about the size now at 9 weeks old as most of my 4 week olds are.. wonder if it has something to do with diet or genetics or ? Anything wierd about the parents? The parents of my little ones are normal sized, and as far as I know not related.. again, they're not mine so I don't know all the details.. but..

sometimes to see the world properly in all its beauty, we just have to close our eyes. I'm betting that your glider is more in touch with herself than any of us have ever been She is beautiful.

Tanya, Both parents are really healthy. The first joey they had here was a single, he was HUGE. The last set of twins where normal sized. These two babies are just tiny, they're like the size of a 10-11 day old joey when they're almost 25 days old. I feed Priscilla Price's diet. But I feed zookeepers secret and not monkey buscuits.

These gliders are cinnimons which originally came from The Pet Glider if I remember correctly.
