Remi is a single glider. He's three years old and used to have, I think, a female buddy. He's so playful and lively that I just cannot imagine how much fun he would have with a fellow glider. So.. My question is... am I limited on the ages of buddies I can get? I would love to get a sibling pair of joeys, but wouldn't do that if it wouldn't be okay for Remi. I would keep them seperated until they were big enough to play (and quarantined of course), but I have no experience with how introductions work and have no clue if an age gap matters to them. Thanks!

It sounds like you're on the right track and have some good thoughts for your Remi. While you are not limited on the number of buddies he has, I would say to not start any bigger than with just another pair. I say that because introductions can sometimes be a bit overwhelming and you want to make sure everyone is healthy and happy before adding more to your family. I think getting Remi a buddy or two is a fantastic idea!

Oh no! I really don't want to have more than three because I would NEVER leave the house! lol So I may ask you guys to help me demonstrate self control when the joey ads get to be too much! lol Would it be okay if I just added one joey? Could it be another neutered male? Or would a female be better? Remi is neutered. I am not planning on breeding because I would not let the joeys go. They would be all mine! and I'm not strong enough to handle the complications that come with breeding. From what I've read, it can be so hard emotionally. I'm not ready for that and probably will never be. ETA: I'm not saying that anyone's ever ready for what happens to the joeys sometimes, I'm just saying that I would probably stay in bed crying for a week if anything happened to any of them. I'm super sensitive when it comes to babies!

I'm, honestly, intimidated by rescues. I'm a college student and living in an apartment with a little dog and cat. I'm afraid I won't look very good on paper. I love my babies like children and Mike (my long time bf) even accepts being referred to as daddy in reference to our babies. We have no kids and really have no plans to have any, so my pets are my world.
Also, if I get an older female, do you think it would be possible for her to be a bra baby? I've been trying to get Remi into a pouch to carry around, but once his eyes are open, I turn into a human springboard! lol He's ready for playtime! I have no complaints because I love him to death, but it would be nice to have a baby that would like to sleep on me for a little bit instead of splatting on me!
Another question. How easy would it to be to find an older, tame female glider (and aren't girls less sweet)? In my mind, it would be really hard because people should research about their animals and commit to them fully aware of the expectations and responsibilites of their care for their entire lifespan. I've, somewhat, come to the realization that that's not normally the case, but I'm still lacking the whole concept of it. lol!
Maybe I should do a "singles" ad for Remi! lol

There are several rescue temporary homes here that help the gliders become a little less timid before they go to their forever homes. It still could take a little more time than bonding with a baby that had human contact it's whole life, but it is definitely possible. If rescues intimidate you, you could always look for a "rescue" that was taken care of well during it's life so far but was given up because of a change in the owners life that made them not have enough time to spend with him or her. And no, girls are not less sweet. All gliders have their own personality, and you can even sometimes have an intact male that is sweet as can be. (I experienced this). You're right, people should do their research before getting these animals. Sadly, many think of gliders as pet store pets that do fine with the instructions initialy given. And there is a huge possibility of having a bra baby. My Jojo didn't particulary like it at first, but when he trusted me enough to scoop him out of his pouch I'd put that away show him the spot in my shirt. He'd crawl in just so he wasn't out in the open anymore, and eventually would go straight there as soon as he came out of the cage. It's all about the time, patience, tender love and care that you are willing to put into a rescue, and they can be sweet as a brand new joey

It doesn't matter what age glider you get him as a friend. The only 'rule' when introducing is that the smallest glider is no smaller than 2/3rds of the biggest. Older gliders can often be tamer than joeys, it just depends on how they've been socialised. A well socialised adult will bond just as well, if not better than a joey thats been handled well. My most bonded glider is an intact male that was 2 yr old when I got him. The first day I brought him home he sat in my hand to take food and then climbed into my pocket! If you really want a 'bra baby' then look around for a glider that has been well handled. Once they learn to trust humans they are likely to be more trusting towards other people. Good luck! And i'd definately aim for a trio altogether. That way one is never left alone if (god forbid) something should happen to one of the gliders x

I just got my first boy last week and had all girls before that and all of them had different personalities. Honey was my sweetest girl and loved being a bra baby. While Sweet pea was much more playful and wanted to play every time i got her out of her pouch. I had one rescue that I couldnt even touch or walk into the room with out her crabbing at me. But that is why you need to make sure you know their personality before bringing them home. Most breeders and rescue homes can tell you what the personalities are. I wouldnt put a restriction on whether they are male or female, just if they are bra baby material or not. And i would suggest you get one that is his age or younger, and getting 2 wouldnt be a bad idea, JIC.

I know alot of people say they should be close in size, but some gliders are just such different sizes. Our first glider was very big compared to our second. And our second glider is still so small! As long as your new glider is big enough to defend itself I think it should be ok. Rescueing is always a good choice but if what you want is a joey who you can make a bra baby... then get a joey. Look more for certain personalities that will match your gliders!
