I've heard that the sturdy cage is a pretty good starter cage, but I have a different one myself so I cannot speak from personal experience. It's perfectly safe though! :D Here's a short list of start-up costs from an article under the "Articles" tab: 2 standard grey gliders, pet only, $200 each - $400 1 Large cage - $150 1 Wheel - $50 3 Cage sets, $30 each - $90 toys - $50 Food - $30 Wellness Exam - $50 per glider - $100.00 I would add: bonding pouch misc treats all food/ingredients needed for diet (I use HPW) glider kitchen emergency kittravel cage (for going to the vet) food plates mealworms Genji tent (that's the one I have and it's great) tent time toys That's all I can think of at the moment, but I'm sure others will have things to add. Oh, and Welcome to GC!! :D

Oh, and Welcome to GC!! :D I was making up a list similar to this using the same link when my browser crapped out and deleted everything I wrote, and you got some stuff that I missed. Glad I didn't have to retype everything, LOL. Anyway, here's the link if you'd like it lilchris: So, you want a Sugar Glider Also, Suncoast is an accepted diet and is okay to use. What you choose to feed your babies is up to you, and if you click on the word diet it will take you to a list you can research and choose one that works for you. I use HPW Complete , which is extremely easy if you're looking for an easy diet Wire floors are perfectly okay for gliders, it makes cleaning very easy when you can slide a drop tray underneath. If you've been on the suncoast website you've seen their HQ cages, which are great cages for gliders Good luck and

That is the exact cage I recommend to everyone! I love them so much that I have purchased several of them. And you have been provided with a pretty good list of what is needed. Keep in mind that toys and pouches will wear out and need replaced. One thing I would add to that list is an emergency vet fund. You just never know when you will need it, and emergencies don't typically come cheap. Having a savings account, separate credit card, care credit, or an open account with your vet are all ideas for this. As mentioned, that diet is one that is accepted, but not one I personally have any experience with. The diets that I recommend are BML and the Original HPW. If you click on the word diet, it will take you to the database where there are numerous diets listed. This is a compiled list for owners to review and decide for themselves which diet they are most comfortable starting with. Keep in mind that this list is NOT an "approved" or "recommended" list. It is simply a listing of various diet options where people can leave reviews on their personal experiences with each one. There is no "best" diet out there. Everyone has their own opinions of what is best. As long as you are feeding a balanced diet, and your gliders are eating it, then they should be just fine.

well take the time to just look at the diets then, hopefully you will find a good breeder / and or a rescue home, and they may already have the gliders on a staple diet, and you can just continue feeding them what they are accustomed to. but at least by looking at the various diets, you will have a good idea as to what would be good for you, then if you do decide on a diet that is different than the breeder discuss it with them. example... I feed BML, if you got a pair from me they would already be on a good staple diet.. and you may not want to change it,.. if you did and discussed it with me, there are several out there, I approve of and i would be able to get you in touch with the other person so the change could be done responsibly.

While you're waiting and putting your major items together, I'll address some of the little things that you can pick up as you make trips to the grocery store or drug store: A good ER kit is NEVER complete (I keep finding things to add as I travel the road of glideritis right now it STUFFS a generous size backpack) but some of the BASIC ITEMS you need to have in it include the following: * A spare water bottle. (It NEVER fails that the one in your cage will spring a leak/malfunction at 2am when you DON'T want to run to the 24-hour store & get another one) * KY Jelly (the REGULAR stuff, with a BLUE label) * Neosporin (or its cheap cousin). Get a tube WITH pain reliever, and one WITHOUT. Each has its own good uses and times when one will come in handier than the other. * Q-tips. (yes, they may be sitting in the medicine cabinet, but a snack-size ziploc baggie IN the kit is convenient when you need to "grab & run") * No-Hurt bandage (that's the name of it for us humans). It sticks to itself without tape and is VERY handy for covering a wound. * Two CHEAP plastic embroidery hoops. (seriously) You can find them at Wal-Mart for about $1.50 each. And if you're lucky enough that there's a fabric area, pick up a REMNANT piece of fleece at least 10" wide. These can make an "emergency hammock" if you ever have to put your glider in an e-collar....INSTANT sleeping quarters. Right there where you KNOW it'll be when the panic button is hit. * Gorilla Tape. (no I'm NOT kidding) It puts duct tape to SHAME in how well it holds and doesn't leave a sticky residue when you go to pull it off. Wrap it around your spare water bottle (a couple of feet will do). There's a WHOLE LOT MORE in my kit, but my friend is here and I need to switch over to typing about parasites I'll be back.

You can use neosporin on a glider, but it's typically used when the glider is in an ecollar so they can't get to it. And it's especially important that they are unable to lick anything with a pain relief or numbing agent in it, as it will also numb their tongue, which can make them bite into it.
