Hi everyone! My name is Julie. I live in Panama City FL. I have a grey male named Rooster. His partner Abby just recently passed away, so I am trying to give him as much love and attention as possible. If anyone has any advise on this situation, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Hi Julie, Nice to meet you!

I'm very sorry for your loss hug2

First, grieve with your baby. He will be sad and miss her, so cuddle with him and love on him. They seem to be very in-tune with our feelings, and he'll feel your love which will hopefully help him feel better. If Abby passed away suddenly, you may want to consider getting Rooster checked out by a vet to make sure it's nothing that could affect him.

Then, you may want to think about getting him one or two more playmates! As I'm sure you know because you had two to begin with, gliders do better in groups because they are colony animals. When he is finished greiving over Anna he still may not be completely himself because he is lonely. But bringing friends and going through the Introduction Process (I linked a page I feel explains it properly) will help him make a full recovery from his loss.

Good luck to you and your little one heart

Thank You soooo much! Luckily I was told by my vet that what she had was not infectious. She had an abcess tooth. My vet scheduled a surgery for her. Everything went fine with that. But then 2 weeks later I picked her up to play with her and she was extremely week. The vet said to bring her in immediately. She died about 5 mins after I got her there. I look forward to getting some new playmates for Rooster but Abby will always hold a special place in my heart.

Julie, I don't have anything to tell you about your lone glider but am very sorry to hear about Abby. Welcome to the site. I am from the Tampa Bay area and we have a few breeders around here if you need one.

I would (myself) just try to be close to Rooster right now. I don't know enough about how they handle loosing their mates, but would think it might take a while before he'll want to tackle another one, or let someone else in his cage. Just my opinion on that.

If you start looking now for a buddy(s) that way when quarantine (30 days 2vet visits, more info on this site) is up, you can start the intro process when he is ready. Just my experience sooner is better than later, but you should go by rooster. But being proactive is good. And welcome! Lots of good info here on this forum!

Welcome! Sorry to hear about the little one frown It's true that gliders grieve just like we would, and yes he does need time to grieve but I can almost guarantee that he wouldn't turn down a new cage mate as soon as you were able to get one. They can grieve and still need company at the same time. Getting another glider will not stop him from grieving the loss of his last cage mate, but it will stop him from being lonely which is a completely different thing. Hope that helps x

Hi Everyone!
Sorry My computer at home is not working that is why I havnt responded all weekend. Its good to see so many suggie owners close to me! Hopefully I will find him a playmate soon. I think my only option will be to adopt though. Rooster is 1 and I would like to get a suggie around that same age. Most breeders only sell babies. Also Rooster is not yet neutered. I was realy looking forward to his previous cage mate Abby to become pregnant so I could raise some suggies from birth. Now I am not sure if I should neuter him or find a female cage mate for him so that he can be a daddy.
