Glad to hear Baby is doing well! Judie, did the
vet ever determine what was causing the swelling
at the base of his tail? When we got Gizmo, part
of his tail was already gone. He also had swelling
at the base around his anal gland. The remaining
portion of his tail was dead to the point it had
to be amputated completely. Had to go back so far
that there was not enough skin left to completely
be stitched over the opening. The vet ran several
tests, some of which we do not have the results yet.
However the cause for the swelling was not determined. We have him on Baytril & Flagyl to try and eliminate as many problems as possible.
Leaves us in the dark though. Don't know if the
swelling was from him chewing on his tail, or if
the swelling was from something else and caused
him to start the chewing.
sounds like you and your vets did a great job with
your baby. Take care of yourself, at times like
this we forget people need rest too!

When damage is done to the tail area....it will be lifeless. A glider's tail is normally simi prehensial. It will curl a little and will respond to touch.

Mary...the vet said the swelling was from cellularitis. Which basically I think is an inflamation within the cells of the tissue I beleive. The tail was docked above the area that was swollen...where there was good blood flow.

Baby is fine...runs around ang jumps now like a normal Joey. Ears stand erect and does not have any head tilt. Eats like a little pig.

Baby has a name...Snuggles and will be going to Marsha at the end of this month.

This thread has had a happy ending...so, one of the moderators may close it now.

Yes it has Judy, and I promise he will have the best home in the world, I just know that Snuggles and Koala were ment to be together when he is big enough ... They were both found very ill at the same time on the same night .. I know he will be a great pet and a God send to Koala in helping her Raise her future children and help lower the stress on her ..
Judy all the talking we have done about him when he was sick and the rough recovery he has gone threw , My <img border="0" alt="heart" title="" src="graemlins/heartpump.gif" /> fliped over him ... HE will be going into a 5ft high by 3-4ft wide by 2 ft deep cage i will be building here very soon .. to share with Koala and another Male . he is gonna be VERY spolied! this I promise.
