I have been reading up on how to bond with your glider. On several threads I see where people suggest giving licky treats so they get familiar with your hands but then on other threads there is mention of not feeding them thru the bars of their cage since this will make them think everytime you come near you are going to have something in your hand for them to eat hence you getting bit. So what is the correct answer?? I have not done the licky treats at all but I do open the cage door in the AM and give my girls mealies before they go to bed. Is this ok or should I place them in a bowl??

I hand my girls mealies, no bowl. They were a little nippy at first, but actually got better about it because of the repetition. Just because they think I should have treats and don't doesn't mean I get bit. Just my personal experience, but it is really contrary to what you've heard. If you haven't had any problems so far, I wouldn't worry too much

I prefer not to feed through the bars of the cage. I do mealies, yoggies and licky treats with my hand in the cage or pouch.

So what is the correct answer?? I have not done the licky treats at all but I do open the cage door in the AM and give my girls mealies before they go to bed. Is this ok or should I place them in a bowl?? There's a difference between what we call licky treats and feeding your gliders through the bars of the cage. My personal opinion is that all treats should be fed with cage door open and not through the bars. I do believe it encourages nipping and biting. You don't want your glider to be reaching through the cage or sticking their nose and teeth out, either. If you can feed mealies from your fingers and your gliders are good with it, then by all means, continue doing so. If you are being bitten, then put them in a bowl instead or use a set of tweezers.
