My name is Anna...I have been a long time wanna-be owner....about 7 or 8 years I would say I have been doing my research on these little guys. I was never in a situation where I could get one...but I finally am!!! I recently received a cage the other day just by chance for free and almost immediately, my boyfriend found a friend of his who knows a breeder near-by. I am anxious for a little joey to bring home and need to start the cage decorating.

But I just thought I would swing by and say hello, and possibly ask if anyone knows of some simple homemade things to make. Asides Suz's tutorials that is. I have all those bookmarked! wink

Thank you!

Welcome Anna, I hope your experience is a joyfull one. Be sure to get two but I'm sure you know that already. My best home made items are made with the use of plastic fence called Lanyard. It can be bought at Home Depot or Lowe's and the other hardware stores. I fine it in the Garden Dept where the fence is. I use it with fleece strips to make ball pits, tunnels, landings, etc. You can also hang it on the wall to put your unused cage toys on or attach a piece to you cage and hang toys on it. Just be sure to always wrap the edges as they can be sharp and you don't want to hurt your new babies. If you are good at sewing, you'll have a multitude of great things to make. And of course if you have a 2nd hand store like Goodwill close buy, you will have died and gone to heaven with the things you can find there. I have only had my babies since March and already have an entire 4 drawer chest of drawers with only their stuff in it.

Have a great time with your new ones, but be vewwwwwy careful. I dropped mine in the toilet the other day and almost had a heart attack (so did he). But everything came out OK in the long run. :hit: I neglected to plan ahead.

Well I am certainly going to aim for a pair. Not sure how many joeys there are nor the genders. Going possibly tomorrow night to look at them. I am so very excited and hope I can get one or two joeys in a few weeks when they will be ready to be weaned. If I can't get two though...I will certainly be on the look out for a second joey. I know a few other breeders around Minnesota so I hope I can find one not long afterwards.

Welcome to Glider Central! wave

What diet do you plan on using? The HPW and BML are popular (and good choices).

How big is your cage? Is the bar spacing 1/2" or less?

Do you have a vet lined up? Even if you don't see them often, you definitely want to locate one that is familiar with gliders. smile

You can find links to vets and diets here: http://www.glidercentral.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=links

Thank you all for the welcome!! And Willmar? I went to college there! Pretty nice town...but it has changed alot!

Oooo Quiz time! Exciting! :D

I am still debating on the diet. I am leaning more towards HPW just because using reptile vitamins is a little iffy to me. I like more natural foods for my pets.

The cage I actually have is about 4 1/2 feet tall and 2 1/2 feet wide and 1 1/2 feet deep. And the bar spacing is about 1/4". Very small spacing. Though I am going to be cleaning the cage of the little rust there is and coating it with RustOleum primer and paint. Been doing research on that so I plan on doing that soon here...and at least 2 weeks before I even bring a baby home to it to make sure any residual gases break down and is safe for my baby.

And I had a vet lined up a few years back so I plan on doing some final research before it is official I am getting my first little guy/girl.

Oh and thanks for that link!!! I plan on making pouches and toys soon here. Namely a pouch just to get my scent on it at least.

Thank you all again! I am far too excited though!!

I just wanted to mention getting two at once is really no more work than one, especially if you're able to get them from the same breeder/rescue. If you get them at separate times, it's a lot more work the quarantine, two cages, multiple vet visits, etc thumb

Well if it is possible to get two then I most certainly will. I just found out they have 6 joeys so I might be getting a pair. I also found out they won't be weened for another 3 or 4 weeks. So I have some time to prepare my cage! Just bought some fleece tonight to make a pouch or two. So excited!
