I recently purchased my sugar gliders from (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets, I didn't know of the conditions the gliders came from, now I am sorry I bought from them, I feel stupid and embarrassed for it actually.
I have alot of questions but my main one today is about putting them in their pouch I have. Do I haveto make them use the bathroom if they are already asleep when I put them in the pouch, I usually do the potty thing first but it stresses them out alot if they were sleeping when I picked them up...
Also should we hold them in that position where your thumb is under their neck? Is that an ok way to hold them, even just for making them use the bathroom?

No reason to feel stupid nor embarrassed! Many, many, many of us got into glider the exact same way. So please don't feel bad.

Actually, IMO, you can't fully potty train a glider. When they first wake up, they will go to the bathroom. So you can get them out of their cage, let them go, then put them into the bonding pouch.

Don't hold them to make them use the bathroom. If you gliders are old enough to go on their own, let them. Just take them from the pouch, set them on the floor of the cage, and they will usually go pretty quickly. But, that won't stop them from going in the bonding pouch later if they are in there for a long time. Most gliders don't eliminate where they sleep, but some will. No way to avoid it.

I would like you to take some time to read through the various forums here on GliderCENTRAL. Unfortunately, the majority of the information that (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets and ASGV provides is not accurate and not recommended. Some of their methods are even considered cruel.

If you have any questions about these sweet gliders, please post your questions in the appropriate forums. Doing so will get you the most responses from our members.

I would also encourage you to set up a wellness check for your gliders with a local vet. This should be done with all gliders, not just (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets gliders. wink

Karen, I see you're from around my area. I live about 45 minutes away from you, in Highland and I visit Belleville A LOT since my family lives there. You should go see Dr. King in St. Louis. He is amazing!!!

Karen, so glad you found GC and quicker than I did! I have 2 from (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets and I don't think I made a mistake at all...they are great gliders. But I have learned a lot here and firmly support those who oppose mill breeders. Read through the articles here and ask as many questions as you need. And welcome to GC!

Hi Karen,

We are having a gathering in Wisconsin in August. It will be at the LaQuinta in New Berlin.

We would love to have you, there will be a lot of people there that you can glean information from.

There will also be toy and bedding vendors. Here is a link Wisconsin Glider Gathering

wave Welcome to GC!

I also got my first glider from them and learned after how to properly care for them. Don't be embarrased, it's happened to a lot of us. What's important is that you're on here now and educating yourself so you can give them the best care possible.

As mentioned above, there's really no way to potty train them. But I know the method you're talking about. If they're still crabbing a lot and scared of you, I'd say to leave them in the pouch if they're already sleeping. Don't wake them to try to get them to go; it will only stress them further.

Keep reading on here and you'll gets so much invaluable information from so many people with countless years of experience. And when you have specific questions, just post them in the appropriate section and they'll definitely get answered. Everyone is very eager to help smile

Ive always wondered how (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets operates. Ive heard it rumored that you pick them up in a parking lot somewhere after you have paid them at their kiosk. Is that true?

Its very sad that they trick you into thinking you are getting this tamed diurnal pet, but they need love too and Im sure they are just as scared as you are!! smile

I have family in Belleville!

Welcome! wink

Hello! I would agree that if you just got them...they are probably very scared and nervous still. I would try to be as gentle as possible and just work on one thing at a time. You can worry about the "potty training" later.
Sometimes mine pee/poop when they wake up and sometimes they don't.

I suggest you read up on the diet board (the (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets diet is not exactly best..!) and also the housing and accessory board. (lots of toys and cage accessories along with cages to help you understand more about them)

Good luck and ask lots of questions! smile

tinytat they were at our mall last weekend. check out the post i made about some of the ways they opperate. as far as receiving your glider they go to the cages which are tucked behind their sign and will not allow you to see the babies they just grab one of the many and send you on your way.
we snuck a peak when they werent looking its horrible.

Yea I see them here pretty often and the lines are longer than at the Movies!

Karen, How are your babies doing? Are you bonding well? Don't think of them as being Pocket Pets, think of them as being rescued and loved by you.:) Even the ones from breeders can give attitude! Hope all is well! smile
