Hello everyone! My name is Jayme! I recently moved into a new apartment with my fiance Michelle and my four year old glider named Brie! I bought her on an impulse from a mill, and I am fully aware of some of the stories. Yet, there is nothing else I can do now but to try and make her as happy and healthy as possible. Since the move I bought her a new cage which is about twice the size if not more from her original, and I am working on easing her into a leadbeater's diet or some other approved diets. Before the move she never was able to get as much attention as now. I take her out everyday and she seems to have taken a great liking to Michelle. Yet, I fear the move may have been too stressful for her, or the diet is not her favorite. She Inhales the Ensure, but she leaves the Fruit and veggies. Plus she is not as active as she used to be. She constantly sleeps and always want to be in the cage. I can remember a time when I had to try and keep her in her cage! I've been doing more and more research and I've seen that if she wasn't the only glider she may become more active?(happier) Would this be a good idea? OR Should I go in a different direction for her diet? Please help! I can give more info in necessary! P.S. Also how long should I wait to get an email verification?

Gliders thrive with others of their own so I do highly suggest finding her a buddy to curl up and sleep with. The fact that she isn't as active as she once was can and you're seeing a change in behavior be a sign of loneliness or depression in gliders. Also, when is the last time she was at the vet for a wellness exam? As for diet - you mentioned Ensure with fruits and veggies. Does she eat anything other than this each night? I do see that you're looking at another diet, which I think would be a good thing for you to do. There are several that are recognized and used here on the board. Take a look at all of them and decide which one would be best for you. Not positive how long the email should take - you can shoot a PM to Eddie (gliderdad79) and he can check it for you.

Last visit was about two weeks ago for a check up, and to take a look at a balding spot above her eyes. vet said she seemed to be pretty healthy and nothing to serious about the balding. I just have to keep an eye on it for a while. So you don't think that she would have any trouble getting used to another glider? I wouldn't want her to fight with the other one! I have repcal that i sprinkle into the ensure and I just bought some honey to make part of the leadbeaters. (Water honey eggs)and she also has some berries and bugs from Suncoast! which she seemed to like! i usually give her mealworms but everywhere i go lately is out of stock. which is weird because they're bugs!

The bare spots above her eyes sounds like over grooming to me, which is a sign of stress. I too suggest getting her a friend.

(still me just got my account!) I would like to get her a new buddy!Im just afraid she might attack the other glider once i got one=[ Also the vet said she didn't have scratch marks and she didn't see any parasites. But, animals bald for many reasons, most of which are because of stress. she didnt grow up with other gliders, but did have a buddy during her younger years.

(still me just got my account!) I would like to get her a new buddy!Im just afraid she might attack the other glider once i got one=[ Gliders typically do just fine with other gliders. Introductions can sometimes be a bit more difficult, depending on age, but not always. I have one girl who is approximately 8 years old and she has been successfully (and very quickly) introduced to two other gliders here in my home. Also the vet said she didn't have scratch marks and she didn't see any parasites. But, animals bald for many reasons, most of which are because of stress. Overgrooming of the head is typically because a glider is stressed. I stand by getting her a friend. Also, what do you have in her cage? What kind of toys does she have? What kind of wheel? Do you have enrichment and stimulation items in the cage for her? Apple branches? Eucalyptus leaves and branches?she didnt grow up with other gliders, but did have a buddy during her younger years.

I just got the second shipment from the BIG Cage purchase! Super excited! She is already snuggling in the sleeping pouch on my lap! She has two rope toys, a new wheel, and some old things i already had dangling in there. But she never really went for dangely toys, other than foraging toys. But, how many foraging toys can you stuff up before it too many snacks! She had apple branches at one time! I think they may be back at my old house so i can get them when i go visit! Where can i get the Eucalyptus leaves? Any other toy recommendations?

Please take the rope toys out - rope is not safe for gliders, as their nails will make it fray, which can wrap around little fingers and toes. Make fleece ropes instead. You don't have to stuff the foraging toys with snacks. You can put a few little treats here and there, but use other things like fleece strips (very small ones), straws, or other little toys with maybe a treat stuffed inside. I'd get the Euc from Matt at www.eucproducts.com

Be very careful with ropes, gliders can get their nails caught in them and that can cause an injury. I personally won't use ropes in my cages. As for the foraging toys, you can actually put small pieces of their dinner in them instead of treats! That way you won't have issues with too much junk food and they get plenty of foraging opportunities. For euc, you may want to try Euc Products.

I saw you say that you purchased a few items to make part of the BML diet. I recommend you follow the entire diet instructions as written because the recommended diets are made to follow the ratio 2:1 calcium over phosphorus. Your baby needs this to be balanced because too much phosphorus is bad for suggies. Get her on an approved diet ASAP.
