It is sad that some have to resort to name calling to have their point heard. Fact is I'm going to do what I want to and the only thing that may change is my participation in this forum. Also, I clearly stated that ferrets and suggies are different, however my example of predator and potential prey still stands. And although I am no expert on gliders, my undergrad major was zoology so I certainly understand animal behavior. It is amazing to me how quick people are to judge. Not once has anyone bothered to ask what type of interaction I allow and what type of percautions I have in place. And at this point I have no desire to disclose. I stand by my choice and will not be bullied into submission. I feel sorry for others that seek help but may be doing something "wrong" because advice goes to attack quickly as evidenced by this and several other posts. I will not continue this discussion further but before I go I would like the self- righteous to know that I'm a pro-choice democrat that supports gay marriage, belives in spanking my kids, and allows my dogs and gliders to interact. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

This thread has gone off topic and needs to get back on track. The OP was asking how dogs reacted to gliders and vice versa. Not what happens when there are interactions, or who has allowed them.

The bickering will end here so that this thread isn't hijacked any further. thanks

I realize a lot of people on here are very opinionated about sugar gliders. I mean after all, this site is dedicated to them and we all must really care about them if we are willing to join a site on what is BEST for them. A lot of us realize that most bigger animals do not do best with smaller animals. It is as we all know an instinct for them to see them as prey. It is also a gliders instinct to protect itself by crabbing or running from this animal. I do not allow mine around any larger animals. I have let my cat look at them while I held them in a pouch. She just looked and walked away. (She was more interested in their treats) And the sugar gliders ignored her. I am overprotective of them b/c I have had one pass, but not necessarily because of other animals.

I think the main question was about their scent. If you see that they looked stressed about your dogs, then they probably are not comfortable. They will crab and hide. I would never try to get them to play together, as in shoving them together. Dogs love to play with little animals, and you never know if your sugar glider would freeze up and get hurt. Everyone here will raise their animals how they want to, it is their own choice in what they feel is best. Some of us will have to accept it and do what WE think is best for our little guys. We have our opinions on what we think is best and what we know is right to us.

Mainly I was concerned about the scent/sight aspect, as it related to bonding.
In addition, I work with up to 100 different dogs everyday, so what is everyone's thoughts on how the scent from those dogs will affect my bonding process and the overall happiness of my gliders?
Obviously I will change clothes, wash my hands, etc before handling them, but unless I full on shower each day after work before going into my bedroom, they're gonna smell strange animals.
Thanks!

Under normal circumstances, I don't make any changes in my routine before handling my gliders. As a result, they're used to all different smells on me and nothing bothers them at all.
