So Albino babies, I know in other animals that albino's have a lower immune system and have other birth defects. Is that also true with sugar gliders? and can an Albino glider breed other Albinos because isnt albino a sort of "defect" an animal with no color? I dont know.. am confused

There are very few albino sugar gliders in existance, so at this point in time, nothing can be said for sure about their health. Also, since there are very few albinos out there, they are all pretty much directly related and are not being breed to one another at this point in time...

Generally speaking, Albinoism in any species is a genetic defect. Like Leyna said, there are very few albino gliders in existance so not much is know about their over all health or potential health issues. Sterility is one possible issue. Only time will tell if there are other genetic problems with these gliders or not.

My understanding is that to produce albinos, either one albino is paired with a regular gray or two albino hets are paired together. I'm not really sure.

Albanism seems to follow simple recessiveness.. so it would have to be an albino and a het or two hets toget an albino baby.. or of course two albinos if they weren't all related. :-)

On the other hand, leusistics (black eyed white) is not a genetic defect, but a genetic mutation. A fairly natural process. The Leu. doesn't seem to have the same medical issues or potential medical issues that an albino has. Also, the leus have been bred out from the original ones far enough that there is enough "new" blood in the lines to almost eleminate any potential problems from inbreeding/line breeding. So, healthier gliders.

Given enough time and generations, I wonder if the albinos will get to the same point that the leus are? (as far as being bred out far enough)

Hmmm...I am not aware of any "genetic defects" in the albinos. We have a perfectly healthy 1 1/2 year old albino boy. All the albinos, that I know of, in the US at this time, come from 2, completely unrelated, albino hets. This pair consisted of a gray male and gray female who were bought at different times, in different states and SURPRISE!!! Produced a few albino babies. The trick right now is to breed out this one line enough that it will NOT develope health issues or sterilty. To my knowledge, there are no such issues at present.
