Hi,
I am new to this website and these forums. I am not sure if this is where I need to post this topic and excuse me if I am wrong. I need help with my sugar glider Pudgy. He recently lost the love of his life (sugar mamma) she died two weeks ago and I have been monitoring his behavior during this time. For obvious reasons he has become very upset. He will no longer let me handle him much less console him. I'v been very upset these past few weeks trying to figure out what I need to do to better assist him. Sugar mamma was 7 years old when she died of a massive tumor in her abdomen that she fought for two long years. Pudgy before her death had a clean bill of health. He is only 5 years old. I know by now I have two options, 1 I can try and introduce a new cage mate, and 2 I can find a home for him that can provide him with this. I am unfortunately leaning more to the later option because I don't think I can provide for a joey at this time. I have searched high and low for a rescue I find fit in the houston area and have come empty handed. I wanted to know if anyone could point me in the right direction.

Please if you are to respond to this don't reprimand me for being a bad mother. I have been very distraught over my desision and can not handle someone getting after me for it. I love my Pudgy very much and want the best for him. frown

Thank you,
Ally

Hi Ally, and welcome to GC. You've come to a great place, so happy you've found us. smile

Your little man is still young and yes, he's grieving. This can go on for a couple of weeks but he will come around and be okay. Even though he's pushing you away a bit, continue to pay as much attention to him as you can, hold him in a pouch and just let him know you're there. He will be okay.

Send a message to Val - her name here is Jackie_Chans_Mom. She runs a rescue in Texas and is always looking for good homes for her babies. Here is her profile - you will see a link there to send her a Private Message. smile

You can also look in the Rescue Me forum smile There's no need for you to only bring in a joey. There are several rescues out there looking for good homes that you could introduce to your guy.

Thank you so much for the quick reply. You are the first person to respond to my concerns since the death of sugar mamma. I will make sure and contact Val tomorrow and figure out a plan.

I am so sorry about your recent loss of Sugar Mamma. frown There is hope in finding an older mate for Pudgy. The decision is completely up to you as to which option you choose and nobody has the right to judge you for that.

My daughter had a similar situation a few months ago. Her absolute favorite glider Gizmo died leaving his grieving widow alone for the first time in 5 years. We found the perfect match with a pair of 2 year old sweet sisters born here. Hunni was looking pretty ragged, wasn't eating or grooming... except for her overgroomed eyebrows. The little trio of girls is now doing wonderfully. They accepted her as one of their own.

Good luck to you with whatever you decide to do.
