Gliders do well with isoflorine gas. They just have to be watched is all. I've had about 60 or so gliders neutered, all have been put under with isoflorine gas.

I took her back home and we discussed I bring her bsck in tomorrow when dr lightfoots resident vet is there who treats gliders this vet tonight never did surgery on one and it scared me so I decided to bring bubbles back tomorrow 3 pm when resident comes in ! Dr lightfoot suposedly Knows a lot about gliders so the tech set even so she isn't in her resident is very good with them also but it needs to be fixed for sure because she said something it open to her abdominal cavity from the bottom!! The gap is about one centimeter long on the side of her anus its gross to say the least but no blood it's so weird never seen anything like this

While your glider is at the vet's tomorrow... have him do a C&S (Culture and Sensitivity) to determine wither or not the appropate med is being administered. "Repeat abcesses" are usually because the correct med is not being given or the glider was not on the medication long enough to kill all of the bacteria. Sending "Get Well Wishes" for a speedy recovery.

They did the Culture before and that's how they determined the meds my reg vet told me even last Monday we leave her on it longer this time than in June and the actual abscess had responded to the meds within a few days that part went down do that's why I was sooo surprised last night to find this gap in her abdomen

I just checker her cage she ate about five kennels of corn last night didn't touch her blended diet or fruit and she did poop not sure if she drank she is in her pouch sleeping she hasn't been out too much poor baby this breaks my heart I hope all goes well today I take her back in to emergency vet at three pm. It's going to cost me $900 ugh but I just at least pray she makes it interesting when I bought my first glider ( bubbles is a rescue ) A known mass breeder had told me they NEVER need a vet isn't that something? I wonder how many gliders die because of that statement ! Anyhow wish us luck

Mandy, do you have her in an e-collar or e-jacket? If you suspect that she may have done this to herself, she'll need to be in one to prevent further damage. Wishing you luck at the vet today. Please keep us posted!

I hope you can get some pain meds for this little girl! I would call the vet immediately! Make sure she's hydrated & all that good stuff. Your Bubbles is on my heart today & in my prayers.

Thanks much but what does the e jacket do wouldn't that hurt her wound? And will that still prevent her from being able to reach back to her scar then? Gosh I so hope she will pull thru all this Benny was barking in a way last night I never heard they miss each other so much already I had bubbles sleep in a small cage nexto my bed last night now I shouldn't give her anymore food or water until/before surgery right?

If her wound is only in the cloacal area, the e-jacket would be fine. However, if you have any concerns about it at all, then please don't use it. Use the e-collar instead! Since I can't see your glider, I really don't know which would be the best for her, that is a decision you will need to make. ETA: The e-jacket is designed to prevent them from being able to bend to access their cloacal area. If they can't access it, they can't cause further damage. Think of it kind of like a back brace for a person, it limits their mobility as far as bending goes. Although it limits their bending mobility, it allows them more freedom of getting around in their cage, in/out of pouches, and makes it much easier to eat and drink. Again, if you are not sure, please use the e-collar.

ok here is update... took her back in the vet now discovered that thru that big gapping hole she has right nexto her rectum her part where she urinates from has seperated and she urinates now out of that HOLE not her clocea.... oh my gosh... she said there seems to be a tiny hole and she said she can not guarantee that even if she fixes her back up that she will ever be able to pee out of the clocea again... it looks really bad... she said also if bubbles cause this all to herself thru mutulation she most likely will do it again... i asked her at what point do i say to just euthanize her and put her out of her misery?????????? the vet said at this point therte is still hope she said she will consult with Dr. Lightfoot her boss tomorrow morning. they are monitoring her tonight and giving her iv fluids and are surrenge feeding her.nand gave her pain meds and to perform the surgery tomorrow which involves possibly ambutating more of her already ambutated tail because the entire infection issue could come from her infected tail and went up into her clocea she couldnt tell right now if its an anal gland abcess she said tomorrow when she is under anestesia she will be able to tell more either way it will be an open wound because she said this needs to really heal from the inside out..... i am defestated at what point do i give up and let her cross over the rainbow bridge??? how much should i try.? the doc said tomorrow she will be able to tell more as well when she is under anestesia they will use a different type then the iso she said there is one that is more expensive but is much quicker to wake them back up she likes that type more so i have to trust her opinion but i forgot the name of it. Any thoughts? Advice?

Mandy, whether to euthanize or not is a decision that only you can make. No one should tell you to or not to do it. You need to discuss things with your vet tomorrow and see what options there are, what the recovery will be, what it will entail, and decide if she (and you) should go through this or not. Also ask what her quality of life will be. Then make your decision. Just know that it is your responsibility as her owner to ensure her daily care, so it is your decision on what to do for her. I'm sorry I can't give you any helpful advice in this situation. The only one I know that has a lot of experience in these areas is Val, you may want to try to contact her. Maybe she can give you some examples of potential outcomes to help you in your decision. I'm so sorry that you and your baby are going through this.

thanks much Shelly I am very committed to my gliders and no care or money will stop me but exactly my thought i dont want to be selfish and keep her alive if she wont have quality of life. I think we will know more tomorrow. I messaged Val but i am sure she is enjoying her thanksgiving with her family. i cant even function today i cant eat because if my pets are sick i am sick
