Shelf life: Happy Glider and Wombaroo Milk Replace #133725

I was going cleaning the freezer out today and while deciding what to toss, I realized that I had not looked into how long Pet-Pro's Happy Glider or the Wombaroo Milk Replacer will last when stored in the freezer. Both are vacuum packaged and have not been opened.

The Happy Glider I bought for emergency situations (i.e Hurrican Evacuations ) but have not had to use it. I'd hate to throw out a completely unused package only to replace it with another without knowing how long it will keep in the freezer. The Milk replacer was bought for a joey I handfed, but since my gliders are no longer reproducing I don't mind tossing it unless it can be of use to someone else.

Any ideas for either product?

I just got in 3 packages of Wombaroo (as a just in case). Am I supposed to store it in the freezer? It's in powder form in the original package. Help please?

Kristin, if you have had it in the freezer and it is well-wrapped, it should last a long time. If it has been opened, smell it and see if it still smells fresh. If not, toss.

I tried to look at the website for happy glider, but it's down. Try calling pet-pro: 1-877-977-8310

Uhm, I'm not really comfortable with the smell for freshness test I know with the puppy milk replacer I just tossed it still smelled fine and looked fine -- but the container said only good for up to six months once opened, even frozen. The packages I have are not the orginal packaging -- but have been vaccummed packed and no opened since then.

And I've been trying pet-pro.com and come up with Page Cannot Be DIsplayed as well - so thank you fore the number. I'll call tomorrow if no one else has the information.

weird Kristin, I was cleaning out (ONE OF) my glider cabinets last night and was wondering the same thing. I had some older vitamins, and wombaroo milk replacer, unopened, a whole bag of glideraide I hadn't yet used from months ago (I think I bought too much stuff, lol), and some various other things I was questioning.. I had no idea whether to keep or toss.. as there were no dates on any of them at all.. I HATE throwing out things out, it feels so wasteful, but with the gliders, and not being able to know for sure if things are good, ugh, I just tossed everything out.

I would shoot an email to Geoff at www.wambaroo.com - he deals with Wombaroo products extesively & if he doesn't know the answer offhand, he'll get it for ya - he's pretty quick with responses too!

BTW, if you get that reply from him about the wambaroo, could you post it here? Again, that what we use to mix with the suplements that we sprinkle on the fruits and veggies with the Suncoast diet Thanks!

I contacted Pet-Pro today and was told that if frozen, the food will last indefinately -- even if opened and then resealed. They recommend keeping the food in the freezer and taking out a few days worth out at a time. If kept in the fridge, it is good for a few weeks.

I have an e-mail sent in to Wombaroo -- and will updated once they get back to me.

Just so you know, the recommendation above is for the Pet-Pro Happy Glider. I'm still waiting to hear back from Wombaroo on what they recommend for their suppliments.

Wonderful! I'm sure it will help others as well, no matter WHY they actually have the wombaroo and WHAT it's intended use is

I received a response from Wombaroo --

They recommend to keep it in the fridge (whoops ) and it is good for 'a few years' even if opened and resealed.

HTH anyone who was wondering

You're quite welcome

And Cy, I don't know why. The email just mentioned twice to keep in the the fridge but not the freezer But I'm going to certainly take the recommendation
