I cannot find this answer anywhere. Do any of you know if United's PetSafe shipping uses air conditioned quarters during layovers. I took for granted that it did. However, I found petitions online asking United to begin using AC quarters during layovers and talking about different animals that has perished as a result of the heat. Thank you!!!

I've always been told that they are always kept in a climate controlled area. Whether it be the cargo center, a van, or on the plane.

I've heard the same thing - always kept in climate controlled areas.

That is correct. I've shipped with Continental for many years and United has adopted Continentals practices. There are certain cities that are hard to ship to in summer like cities in Nevada and Arizona, because 120 degrees is hard to content with, but United will allow flights there if they arrive later than 9PM. I think it's a good policy.

Thanks for your replies. but I want to make sure I'm understanding you correctly. People online are saying that they do NOT have AC during layovers. Lisa, you are talking about not going to the warmer cities unless it's after an after 9pm layover. So sounds like NO AC... But Linzie & Shelly it sounds like you are saying they are always kept in AC. I've read over this several times...doesn't help that I'm having day #2 of a migraine...so I'm not seeing or thinking straight.

So what IS the verdict? AC or NO AC during layovers? If no AC, we'll drive it!!! LOL Thanks again smile

Brenda, I've always been told it is climate controlled. You may want to call them to verify the environment at the layover destination.

United PetSafe
800-575-3335

From their website:
Quote:
What features does the PetSafeŽ program offer for my pet's travel?

The PetSafe program has the following features:
  • Pets travel within United's specially designed plane compartments that are pressurized in the same way as passenger cabins.
  • A dedicated 24-hour PetSafe desk is available for help at any time (1-800-575-3335 or 1-832-235-1541).
  • Each pet receives a confirmed booking prior to departure.
  • You have the ability to track your pet's transport from its origin to its destination online.
  • On the ground, both plane and warehouse facilities are climate-controlled for the safety of your pet. To ensure comfort in any weather conditions, pets will be the last cargo loaded and the first cargo unloaded from the plane.
  • Pets receive personal handling in climate-controlled vehicles for connections in United's hubs if the animal will be exposed to temperatures greater than 85°F (29.5°C) for more than 45 minutes.
