I was just wondering if sugar glider joeys are born the same way as kangaroo joeys where they actually are born on the outside of the pouch and have to crawl inside. For some reason I have always had the impression they are born into the pouch and then just crawl to the nipple. If someone could let me know that would be great!

Yes the mommas actually give birth like most other mammals and then she licks a trail to her pouch to help the joey into her pouch. The joeys born are so tiny, they have only nubs for arms and legs, no ears and are blind. It is an amazing thing to watch and very special. I have been breeding for over 4 years and have only seen it 2 times.
Moms are pregnant for 16 days, then the joeys crawls ip and stays there for 65-75 days.
Attached is a picture of a joey that didn't make it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> But you can see what they look like. Others have pictures or video of the live birth.
