When it says "3 breeding females" does it mean 3 intact females or 3 females that are being used for breeding? (MAY BE STUPID TO ASK BUT HAVE TO BE SURE!)

I have 2 pet only females caged with 2 neutered boys and I have a breeding pair... Does this mean Since I only have 1 pair I am not required to get a USDA license?

It is 'supposed'to be if you have three or more breedable females of ANY species in your home (be it dog, cat, snake, gliders, hamster)

However, over the years it has been shown through different conversations and posts that it really depends on your own USDA office.

Some will say if you only have one breeding cage with one female, you dont have to worry. Others say if you have 4 females capable of breeding (even if they do not breed) you will need a license.

I would suggest calling your local USDA office and asking them. Be sure to get the persons name you speak with and write it down along with the date and time in case you are ever questioned about it at a later time.

If this were to be enforced, it would make a lot of work for the inspectors because it would include an awful lot of PET ONLY households since female gliders are almost all capable of breeding.

Most folks have found that the license only applies if you have four or more females housed with INTACT MALES. USDA does not even want to send the application unless you have at least 4 females that you intend to breed.

Very true Candy, it would indeed be a lot of work for them to do, however, as I stated, there ARE some inspectors out there that DO enforce it for how it 'was written' not by the common sense factor. That is why I told her to contact HER USDA office.

Click this Sticky which can be found at the top of this forum. Your state is in the Eastern Region.

Start by calling that number, and they should be able to direct you to the inspector for your specific area OR give you the answer you are looking for.
