Hello Everyone,
Just Yesterday morning Zobie lost his Cage Mate, Zilly. They were very attached and despite him being Very Territorial He accepted her Immediately. Now as you can imagine he is still grieving and stressed without her, But I plan on getting another Glider soon. Zobie and Zilly had One baby and I didn't mind, However I do not necessarily prefer having babies around. And I wouldn't mind having 2 gliders of the same gender.
So I was wondering, Do I get a New Female or a Male? And if I do get a Male does it have to be neutered in order to get along with another Male?
Thanks in Advance.

I'm sorry to hear about your little one that passed frown I know it must be very hard on both you and your male that's left.

I have heard that are some people who have males living together with no issues without being fixed, but I think this is rare. For the safety and better temperament of males living together, it would be best to have all males fixed.

Thank you for the advice, I will most likely have at least one male fixed if I do end up getting both males. My gut tells me to get another Girl though just to play it safe. But we'll see.

I've always been the type of person that for whatever reason or another, I've always been partial to male pets. So most of my pet only cages are comprised of males more so than females. But thats just me.

Only you can make that decision, but no matter which you choose...I'm sure Zobie will be very happy.

If you have any questions on introductions...we can all help you to try and make it an easy transition on you and Zobie.

I know exactly what you mean, Most of My Female pets die young or tragically and they never seem to like me nearly as much as my Male pets. I have mostly males and I like calling everything "My Boys" lol. But everyone around here (Friends, Family, etc.) suggested that I get another Female to play it safe and because my male is so territorial. I am not keen on Fixing things at all, I just dont like to have them go under the knife and even tho its low risk, I still dont like the idea of fixing a sugar glider, So if I did get another Male, I would want him to be fixed before I got him. But my question (Maybe you know more about) is If I had two unaltered Males together would they fight do you suppose? I understand that it goes on a case to case basis but I am at a loss here on whether or not they would get along. Thank-You smile

I have a pet only cage called "the boys". smile. They get along great! They are both neutered. Honestly, they didn't seem bothered whatsoever by the neutering. They just seemed to go on after that with no issues. It also helped tremendously with their scenting so less of a smell. thumb

As far as if they would be more territorial, like you said it really depends. I do however, think the likelihood is greater than if they were both neutered.

Thank-You! smile I am really looking forward to getting another glider. At first I was skeptical because the last couple days have been extremely stressful on Zobie and Me, And I wasnt sure I wanted to Chance another Problem right off the bat, But overall I think this is what we need. Thanks for all the Great Advice, I might try a boy, But I guess I will have to give it some thought, and see if I can find a Neutered Male.

Having only female dogs all my life, I've preferred them over male dogs as pets, but like you I'm not fond of the spaying/neuter surgery, so when my DH and I planned on getting a dog I wanted a rescue that was already altered.

I've also learned that egg laying creatures such as birds and reptiles can suffer egg.binding which can kill them, so with those species, I've preferred males. So the two lizards I had were both males (two different species living in separate rooms).

When I decided on getting the gliders, I was looking for rehomes, so didn't care on the sexes, as long as males, if any would be neutered already.

Good luck with your search.
