I have just gotten a sugar glider and i have been having a problem. he sees to like me but anytime he climbs on my arms or hands he starts to bit HARD and he dosent stop he just keeps biting until i can get him off with my other arm!. i thought it was because he smelled food on me but then he did it to my forearm so i just don't know what to do because he always draws blood and it really hurts! he seems to like hanging out in my hoody pocket but as soon as he leaves i get kinda scared because i know he is gonna bite... any help appreciated!

More than likely there is a scent on your bare skin he does not like, so he's probably attempting to groom it away. Could be the soap you use to shower or some other scent. It's really hard to know.

Try wearing a shirt with long sleeves and see if that makes a difference or be sure to wash your arms with something unscented before handling to see if that works.

Personally, I would try the long sleeves first to give you a little added protection. It could be he just hasn't had enough time to get used to your scent. There are so many variables with these little ones.

Here's another trick to try. Sleep in a t-shirt/under shirt. Then cut it up into small squares for blankies so your scent is on it or you can use fleece squares. That way he will be sleeping with you scent. May make a difference. Worth a try.

wave Welcome to GC! And hello to a fellow NYer smile

You've gotten good advice above. I always wear long sleeves when handling mine because it helps keep nail scratches at bay as well. But once he gets used to your scent, the nipping will probably subside.

My one boy always came to my hand or foot and would dig. When he does I consistently Say NO and blow on him. He rarely does it anymore.

I agree with the posting above. I always where long sleeves bcz I dont like all of the scratches on my arms. I used to where a thick sweat shirt to prevent one of my male gliders from biting me. Once he gets used to your scent he will stop. I would keep a shirt or jacket you've worn over his cage all day and night so he will get used to your scent.
