I've been breeding for 8 years but now have my first pair which will produce leu (these I've breed for years) and possibly platinum (new to me). Mom has shown me her joeys poking out of her belly and one is perfectly pink like a leu. Does anyone have ip or JUST oop joey pics of a Platinum that they can show me. I'm wondering what the skin coloration looks like just before they fur up. Are they easy to distinguish from a Leu? I've searched all over the net and haven't been able to find any pics or descriptions for anything but fully furred joeys.

The easiest way to distinguish plat from leu is by seeing the ears. Aside from that sometimes you'll see the faint stripe as it comes in or the darker tail tip.

I don't suppose you can tell then before they are out of pouch and the fur starts coming in? If they are all pink and not quite out of pouch, is a platinum going to look the same as a leu? And I'm assuming that the stripe that comes in is in the fur and not on the skin like shows on a standard grey.

Usually no, but if you have darker plats you may be able to see the darker color sooner.

Around what age do you notice the stripe coming in generally?

Usually a week to 10 days out but with the lighter ones it can be a few days after they come oop.

Here is a pic of a leu and a plat joey

This is a pic of my very first plat joey (from 2008):

You typically will see darker ears, a faint stripe (that may not be apparent right away) and a greyish tip to the tail.

Thanks so much guys smile joeys are out on mom's belly now and I should be able to get a good close look and sex them today. Maybe I'll get lucky and be able to tell if I have a Lue or a Plat, here's hoping :gluck:
