Hi all. My husband and I own two sugar gliders, a male and a female. the first night we got them, the male somehow got stuck on their blanket. Seeing that they are over a year old, they were not bonded with us yet, so touching him was not gonna happen. He hissed at us ALOT. Well we figured he would get it unattached himself. Well he did, but there is still some attached to his underside. It has been about a month now. He doesnt hiss at us anymore, let's us pet him, but not hold him yet. The female on the other hand does.

I don't know what the fabric is attached to and if we should continue to be worried. We didn't know if we need to take him to a vet and let them remove it or not.

I think I attached the photo's.

Any help would be awesome!!

If you are circling that little round pompom looking thing and tried to get that off, I don't blame him for being less than friendly wink

That is where his testicles are, and it is supposed to be there on a male glider who is either unneutered or neutered with pom left on.

Is that what you are talking about because otherwise I don't see anything out of the ordinary.

Up towards the top is a string that is attached to that pom pom area. He was moving so much I couldn't get a good picture.

In the picture attached you can see the fabric, it is hanging from his testicles area down towards his foot.

It looks like it may be wrapped around his pom. I would suggest getting him into the vet and having that removed. They will probably have to sedate him to get it off.

It is hard to see the piece of fabric in the photos because it is a little dark/blurry as the cage is the forefront of the photo making the glider the background. But, you can see it if you look really good. However, I can't tell how it is attached. It is somehow wrapped around his pom? If so, I would take him to the vet and let them remove the piece of blanket because trying to do it yourself probably isn't a good idea.

OMGoodness, I completely missed that probably because it is almost the same color as his stomach. So very very sorry.

Peggy is 100% right. Please make an appt as quick as possible to get that off him.

Again, my apologies for missing it blush

Thank you so much! I will be calling the vet first thing in the morning!! He doesn't act like it bothers him, but of course I really can't know if it does bother him :-(

I am soooo glad I joined this group.

the blanket material does not appear to be fleece if that the case I toss blanket and get some fleece, fleece is the safest fabric with gliders.

This could mean the circulation to that area has been cut off. Which would also mean the glider will wind up self neutered.

Hope your vet visit goes well. thumb

Just wanted to give an update.

Took Brain to the vet. The fabric was wrapped around his pompom, but it wasn't cutting off any circulation. The vet was able to cut the fabric off without putting him to sleep, which is what worried me the most. Brain actually let the vet hold him and cut it off. He is a little bruised from it but the vet said he would be fine. I can now breath a little better. :-)

That's a good question! I am curious too. Mine was in a similar situation (he needed anesthesia though, and it was the emergency vet), and I had to pay over $200! :thumbd:

Every vet is going to be different. Something like this with my vet would have been under $50 or so.
