I have a breeding pair that have been together for over a year and produced no joeys and fight over food every night. I kept thinking it was a phase and they would get over it, but they are not. What should I do?

sounds to me like this pair is not happy together. Please keep in mind, just because we put two gliders in a cage together does not mean they will like each other. They may tolerate each other, sleep together, but that doesnt mean they want to be together.

You may want to consider getting them different mates.

Did you know that in the wild gliders do not stay with their colonies for all of their lives? On average, every two years or so the Alpha male will leave its colony and go find a new one. Throughout all that time, other members of the colonies come and go often.

Gliders have no choice when we put them in a cage and often times we do not listen to them when they try to tell us they are not happy. We just try to find ways to make them happy whether they like it or not.

so a female can actually kick a male out of the nest if she doesnt want to breed. They may be breeding and she may be pulling her own joey because she is not ready. nutrition can also play a factor.

OK I switched them with different mates & within a week she spits out twins. All he ever produced is WF's. She is a Platt the mate she didn't like was part cremeino. She delivered cremeino joeys. I think, I'm not good with colors. They are cream colored with yellow mostly on the head & shoulders.

But the WF dad seems fine raising them. Should I switch them back?

Actually, we have recently learned at the OSGA, nutrition is a VERY SLIM cause for joey issues. More than likely there is something wrong with the joey(s) themselves. Or it can also be genetics.

This confuses me a bit and hoping for some clarification.

A glider cannot 'spit out' joeys in a weeks time. So, I am assuming she already had joeys in pouch. Can you get us a photo of the joeys please? Unless both parents are het for cremino, they cannot be cremino joeys and the cream color you are seeing may just be pouch staining.

Also, I am not trying to sound rude so please do not take it as so, just trying to help you out, but if you do not understand the genetics of a glider, it is not advisable to be breeding them. The reason for this is, the lineages of gliders are actually not that broad and the chances of inbreeding are actually more common than most people think. That is how we have so many colors here in the states, they were produced from inbreeding at one point and then the lines were 'cleared' out.

You do NOT want to keep switching mom and joeys around from one male to another. They will wind up killing the joeys if they feel there is a threat or the stress level is too high.
