Today I've been sewing like mad and going through old pouches to see what can be used and what needs to be chucked or canabalized for new and I've come to realize they are chewing holes in the pouches before the fabric or seams give out. Is this normal or do I just have chewers? It doesn't matter how shotty the work is either, they always chew a hole in the fabric itself, usually right in the middle... I'm always careful to hide threads and loose ends.
Also, they've got 2 pouches and one cube in their cage and they play in/on the pouches and sleep in the cube. With the cube they have now I've notice the bottom panel is stretching out (they've never had one last this long before). With the new ones I'm sewing I'm making the bottom panel a double with cotton too in the hopes it won't stretch out as far or at all. Should I reinforce all the panels this way? Is there something I'm missing in my cube construction or is that normal?

I switched to single layer pouches because my gliders like to rip a hole in the pouch to get in between the two layers.

They eventually wear a hole in the back side of the single layer pouch but not big enough to crawl through. I guess they want a porthole to look out.

With single layer pouches how do you hide the seams?

I have found with my chewers is that if I hang the pouch so that it isn't touching the sides of the cage they don't chew them out.

I agree with Kimberly. I hang pouches in the corners so they hang more freely and I don't have any chewing. Of course, I don't know if they'd chew anyway, I have on some occasions offered alternate sleeping pouches not in a corner and haven't had chewing, but then those pouches weren't used as much.

Since I put a cube back in there, they don't even sleep in the pouches anymore. They sleep in the cube and play in/on the pouches. They are weird little brats. I kept a hammock in there too and Marius loved the hammock but somebody chewed that too and I haven't gotten another one made to put back in there.

I use only fleece, which does not ravel at the edges, and I use a very short tight machine stitch which imbeds itself pretty tightly into the thick fleece.

watch the glider's teeth. We have one of our gliders that like to try and pull the fleece cage cover into the cage ( had to remove the cover) but we kept finding fibers around her upper teeth and it took only a little effort to remove it but she never cared for being held done long enough to do so.

Thanks Candy, I'll keep that in mind if they chew any of the new pouches in their cage. I've kinda hung them hanging a little away from the wall so we'll see where that gets us.
I doubt they'll sleep in the pouches as they've got a brand new cube but maybe they'll surprise me. After all they got a new cage tonight so they might come up with new sleeping arrangements.
