My female is making a short chsst (I don't know exactly the name but I think it's a louder and shorter version of hissing) while she's inside her pouch.

She makes that noise when she's annoyed or doesn't want to be picked up. When she wasn't bonded she made it when she thought i would steal her food.

She usually starts making it late in the afternoon when she starts grooming herself but when I try to look inside the pouch she stops and pops her head out so I can't see what she is doing. It sounds like she's grooming when she makes it though.

She used to make it every now and then but now she does it every day. What could be the cause of this? Is she hurting herself somehow?

Thanks in advance.

Does it sound like a sneeze? It is possible you are hearing her spit into her hands while she is grooming herself.

No, it sounds different I hear her spitting on her hands and once in a while she makes the chsst sound.

I believe it's the sound we try to mimic to tell the glider he's biting too hard (playing) but I can't find a name for it. That's why I'm concerned.

Is this normal or is she making it because she's hurting herself ? Maybe grooming too hard?

Thanks

Is she a single glider?

Yes at the moment she lives in a cage on her own. My other glider, a neutered male, lives on another cage next to hers.

I'm waiting till they are completely recovered from a respiratory infection they've had.

I'll wait for the results of the culture i'm going to do and if it shows they're clear I'll start introducing them. This shouldn't take long as they're responding really well to the meds and are nearly cured.

Could she be making this noise because she's overgrooming? I can't see any loose hair around the cage or signs that she's plucked hair off.

Thanks

I would say that she is trying to communicate with your other glider.

She is lonely.

Thanks that makes sense. I feel really bad for both, I'm trying to give them as much attention as I can in the meantime.
It's just that his infection is a little worse than her's and I don't want them to get worse because of being together. But they do have the same bacteria so I may be wrong.
Hopefully they'll be together before christmas if everything goes well.
