So, I know this was kind of answered in the following link, but I wanted to ask a few follow up questions. And I thought the title of this might help someone else in the future. First, here is the older topic if anyone wants to look at it. http://www.glidercentral.net/ubbthreads/...ons#Post1392346Now, for my questions, we are thinking about rehoming 2 more gliders. Currently we have 2, so that would give us a total of 4. We would go through the quarantine process, but I am looking at the time after that process. We currently have the Madagascar cage, and its dimensions are as follows per the Exotic Nutrition Web site: 48 inches tall (60 inches on the stand) x 24 inches wide x 24 inches deep. Can hold up to 3 Gliders comfortably. So, my concern is the last part, that it can hold up to 3 gliders comfortably. Does this mean that with 4 this cage would be to small for our girls? Thanks for any input. Phil

Personally, if you are able to go a little bigger for four gliders, I would. That is a good size cage, but when you add toys, wheel, possibly ropes and sleeping pouches, then you have downsized their interior space considerably.
I always suggest going as big as you possibly can

Thanks Karen, not sure we can afford a new cage right now and I am wondering if this is going to be a reason to not rehome the other 2 girls. I am sure we can get a bigger cage in the future, but not sure when that will be.
I know I can get a 2nd cage from the current owner for the potential 2 new rehomes, but neither my wife or I like the idea of 2 cages if we can avoid it (After the quarantine period).
So, based on that, what do you think?

Thanks Karen, I knew about them not working together, but honestly kind of forgot about that until you said it again. At least I would have the backup cage if needed.
Thanks for the input.

I had the Madagascar cage before, I got it as an upgrade for my pair of girls, then added a boy creating a trio. My thoughts on 4 in this cage: I agree with Karen, they have to all get along very well. It would depend on their activity level. I've had my trio in their vacation Glide-atrium for a bit longer than a week, with travel size wheel when moving across country, two times. Although not ideal, they did fine. Also had to keep them in temporary enclosure recommended size for two gliders for over a month, and again, they did fine. Mine are 4-6 years old and mostly like to eat. I recomend if using Madagascar for all four, using none to max one shelf, no ramps/ladders, and frequent outings. Monitor Nd prepare to save for an upgrade in the future. When I used Madagascar cage with trio, I did have two wheels, although both regular sized would work, I preferred one regular And one travel size to maximize space. They use both sized wheels.

Ok, so what is the largest cage that is safe for gliders out there that you guys would recommend? Again, just looking ahead here.
I know I could build something as well, and that might be a better option, but just asking.
Thanks, Phil

There is an octagon shaped flight cage out there that is huge, it won't fit through a patio door assembled. I have heard it is hard to clean.
You can triple stack the critternation cages into one big cage, you would have those nice big doors on all three levels to open and clean and rearrange stuff.
Or you can make one. I myself prefer the powder coated finish as it doesn't hold smell. I have heard that the home made cages with the plastic mesh from Menards or Lowes holds the smell eventually.

Thanks, Phil I can't help you on the wire cages as I converted to the 260 Reptarium way way back before there was a change to the mesh making them unsafe for gliders. Fortunately for me, I did not have chewers and my original mesh lasted for-e-ver, plus I had extras so I could simply pop on a new clean one when the dirty was removed to be washed. Yep, I'm lazy
If you want to read about our journey, it is pretty much archived here . I honestly don't know if these would be safe for gliders now, but I do know I got one of the newer ones once to see the difference, and it was a booger to get on the frame unlike the older ones. Thankfully I had extra poles and could make it work. Even washing first to try and soften it didn't work.

Ok, so what is the largest cage that is safe for gliders out there that you guys would recommend? The largest cage for me would be one that I can still easily manage for both hanging toys and pouches and more importantly for cleaning. I take my cages outside for a good Dawn Dish Soap scrubbing and thorough hose rinse followed by drying in the sun for an hour or so. If I could not wheel a cage out the back door for cleaning - It would be too large for me. I also want to be able to reach all areas of the cage. If my arms are not long enough reach the back wall or upper back corners of the cage through the cage door - then I might not be able to reach a glider that decides to hang out just out of reach everytime the door is opened. If you really want to "go big" and build your own cage - be sure you keep your options for cleaning the cage in mind. I would not build anything too large to be easily moved through a doorway or too large to be maneuvered down a hallway if needed to move it to another room.
