I am trying to adopt a 4 month old blind glider. She was born blind, and I am wondering if any of you other blind glider owners have any cage suggestions, or if you could post pictures of their cages?? I know to use tons of hammocks, but do you think I should go with low and long too???
Thank you in advance on any help and suggestions!

Sorry you haven't received any responses yet. I'm really not sure what you would need to do. It seems logical that a shorter, longer cage would be more ideal. dunno

I agree. I believe they are very smart and can find there way around well. Just give him lots of places to rest that he knows where they are every time you swap. I would keep them in the same place, but change up the toys. They need enrichment as well! I have PVC pipes as perches and to hang toys on. something like this may help him get around better as well.

Our little girl has no problems in her cage. The only thing we try to do special is to limit the moving of things around in her cage. Otherwise we treat her as if she sees. She uses sounds and smells to guide herself. We think she may see some shadows. But she has no problem getting around. She loves to get out and explore outside the cage. She will even attempt jumps when exploring. Ever wachful mommy and daddy make sure she stays safe. She really loves to get wild in the tent during tent time. Her addition to our other handicapped glider Cosmo has calmed him down, increased his confidence and he has become much more relaxed. He even checks on her occasionally and will give reassurance rubs.

You may be able to find more info on this (?) @ The Sweet Spot,b/c this is a forum of many types of maladies, & conditions of gliders health issues, more so than a forum as this one is,to share info. Most everything there is documented,& followed up on very closely.
There is great advice to be gotten here, too.

I agree, the biggest thing is to not move things around once you have them placed. Keep pouches, wheels and toys in pretty much the same place as well as food and water. My boy sees a little bit of shadow and light. He gets around really well. thumb

Gliders are VERY adaptive, and have good little noses, so even if something is moved, they can find it...I just notice that he moves around more quickly and surely when his stuff is all in the same place. thumb

I have a little boy who is mostly blind and I just keep things in a pretty close proximity when i change his cage around, hes in a 72in high cage and uses all the space in the cage, I have noticed he uses clicks and smell most to move around and definitely uses the help of his cagemates if he gets stuck or doesn't know how to get himself somewhere. But I do try to keep his cage pretty much the same, and do change the fleece a little less often since he is so scent oriented. He doesn't know hes blind and acts the same as the 3 others that live with him in his cage.

I wanted to give an update on Jack. Sorry my life has been crazy busy lately...

Jack and his cage mate Sally are doing wonderful. I took everyones suggestion and I opted for a shorter/longer cage. I believe he has some vision out of one eye, but if the lighting isn't right he can't see. They both are super sweet. I do try and keep all items in the same spot when it comes time for laundry. But all in all he seems to be happy!

We keep a red rope light lit in our babies' room. We read that this is very easy on the eyes.
We have it lying on top of almost all of the cages.
This gives us extra light, too, & we hardly ever have to turn on the overhead light.
This may help some also for your little blind baby.
