I recently had to take my male glider into the vet again. He has a history of mutilation (had to have tail amputation) due to a less than optimal start in life. This time we went in for a repeatedly blocked scent gland that he had decided to royally chew. My vet prescribed Gabapentin and he has been on it for a few weeks while he heals. The chewing stopped immediately. He hasn't worn a cone since the day of the incident and has been perfectly happy and healthy since. He has also stopped over grooming a habitual spot. I'm really amazed and made this account solely so I could tell people. About a month ago I was pouring through this forum thinking I was going to have to put him down because of the damage he had done and was going to continue to do. I'm just so thrilled he is ok now. He is healing nicely and I can send pictures and dosage amounts to anyone interested.

Please don't send dosages to anyone. People should discuss this medication with their vet and their vet should dispense the medication.

Dosages are different from glider to glider because of weight of the glider and concentration of the medication.

As an example for the medications there is a pain medication where it is easier to dispense the less concentrated medication as it is easier to medicate the glider with a bit more medication in the syringe than the more concentrated medication that the dosage could possibly be so minute that it is hard to draw up in a syringe.

Any and all medications, even holistic should be discussed with your veterinarian!

It's cool to hear that you had such a good experience with that medication. Thanks for sharing!

You're right. I just mentioned it for a discussion about routine, impact on the glider, and cost of meds. It isn't something you could get without going to a vet anyway, but yeah, I see your point.
