I've ordered some toy parts to make hanging toys and I was looking for something to put it all together.

I only know of the plastic cord many people use for their toys (the one used in making bracelets). Is this one safe for chewers?

Could I use leather cord instead? Is there any other cord where their claws won't get caught?

Thanks

Plastic lacing works great. It is used for weaving friendship bracelets and make necklaces.

They would definitely chew on leather - so you would need to be cautious due to dyes and chemicals used to treat the leather. It will also not tie into a very tight knot - and gliders will make an effort to untie it.

The plastic Rex Lace works well - but avoid the stretchy type.

When using the rex lace it helps to boil water and dip the knot in the boiled water for a bit to tighten up the knot, otherwise you may find that they have untied the knot and all the beads are now in the drop pan.

I like Skettie string, people also use plastic chain.

I wouldn't use cotton string as it will hold the smell if they pee on it. Plus they will get their nails tangled in it.

Rexlace is good for most gliders. Some will chew it tho! It won't hurt them but you'll have beads everywhere. Just ask my glider Toby about that...
I still use Rexlace, I just know at some point he'll probably break it! Lol!
You can also cut long thin strips of fleece and thread beads on that.

Leather cord or string is great too, HOWEVER make sure it's been brain tanned. Otherwise, the normal tanning processes uses a
ot of nasty chemicals you don't want gliders chewing on.

Stay away from any regular string, rope or thread, as this will fray and poses a serious entanglement risk.

If you search the archives or Google, there are some good threads on here about DIY toys and tips and directions on how to make safe toys for your babies.

Thank you all very much. I'll definitely try to find the rexlace, I have no clue where I can find a store that sells stuff for making bracelets though.

The gliders have been playing with parrot toys but it's time they get some glider toys.

If they chew off the lace it's okay, I'll make sure to buy lots of cord, I think taking the toy apart is the most amusing part for them, gliders just love to destroy things grin

Your gliders have awesome names btw!

Michael's Crafts or Hobby Lobby will have the Rex Lace. Jo Ann's may also have it in their craft department.
